A while back I had a thought about some sort of invisible 'tattoo' or chip that computers would use to verify our physical identity virtually that might be coming down the line (or maybe a good purpose for blockchain) but I know we're not there yet, nor do we necessarily want to be. With the stakes higher in political elections, it is crucial to verify the authenticity of visual media. Here are key points to consider: 🔍 Key Points: 1️⃣ Altered Images: Deepfakes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, making it difficult to distinguish authentic from fake images. 2️⃣ Technical Solutions: Implementing standardized authentication frameworks, emphasizing transparency, and rethinking image authenticity assumptions are essential to maintain public trust. 3️⃣ Chain of Custody: Verifying the origin of an image through its full chain of custody, back to the camera that captured it, may be the only way to ensure authenticity in the future. 4️⃣ Metadata: Including metadata like checksums and encryption can help verify the integrity of images. 🔍 TLDR: Verifying authenticity is crucial in the age of AI.
