This month has been designated National Veterans and Military Families Month. Here is an excerpt from President Biden’s Proclamation; “Each veteran and military family represents a link in the chain of honor that stretches back to our founding days, unwavering in their devotion to their loved ones who served in uniform. This month we honor all our military and veteran families. They too serve and sacrifice to answer our Nation’s call to duty. We owe them a debt of honor we can never repay. I often say that, as a Nation, we have many obligations, but only one is truly sacred: to prepare and equip those we send into harm’s way and to care for them and their families when they come home” We enjoy the benefits of freedom in this country in no small part because of the strength of our military. That military rests upon the rock of the families that continuously support them whether they are present or off performing their varied missions. Those families, in turn, rely on support from their communities when needed. So what we can do this month and every month is reach out and embrace our military veterans and families, ensure they are fully integrated into our communities and find out what we can do to assist them. An excellent way for employers to do this is to recruit, hire, reskill, upskill and retain members of this community, again not this month but every month. You’ll be amazed at what they bring to the table, and the benefits your business will reap. #militaryfamilies #veterans #honor

There have many discussions over the past few years of how the various TAPS programs have failed a number of military members following their transition back into civilian life following their military service. There are a number of reasons why some of these may miss the mark, but it is my belief that more emphasis needs to be placed on the cultural dynamics at play in the adjustment back into the commercial workspace following military service. There are many great organizations working to help fill some of the shortfalls of many of the well-intentioned TAPS services, and it truly takes a collaborative effort to address the gaps in the transition process. That is why I've continued to offer my (free) Civilian Reintegration Experience Workshop to colleges and other institutions serving our Nation's military and veteran communities. The key is developing a more effective strategy when leaving service and considering the various dynamics in post-service life for service members and their families. As mentioned earlier, there are many amazing organizations helping in this effort to help transitioning service members, many of them at no charge. So I welcome any of these institutions or individual service members to reach out to me if you would like to discuss my workshop offering as we work together to help our veterans maximize their opportunity for economic success following service to our Country. #veterans #transitions #careerplanning #TAPS #military #economicgrowth #business

Something to think about
Non-Profit Executive / Community Builder / Advisor / Challenge Solver / Veteran & Military Spouse Advocate / Marine Corps Veteran
Your past is not your purpose. What are you going to do with today and future days? For all my transitioning service members, never forget your time in service and the things you did to become who you are. It is a wonderful chapter in your life. But now it is time to figure out what is coming next for you. It is time to put in the work to figure out who you are, what you want to do next, and where to do it. It can be a scary process. That is okay. So were your first few days in the military. You made it through them, you will make it through the transition process too. It will take hard work and time just like it did in service. You got this! Most importantly, you do not have to do this alone. There are plenty of people and organizations ready and willing to assist you. #military #veterans #militaryspouse #veteranshelpingveterans #militarytransition #BruceTalk

Trucking Industry Helps Veterans Find Purpose After Service Many veterans have taken jobs in the trucking industry after leaving the military. The transition to civilian life hasn’t always been easy for them, but some have found healing by selflessly helping to improve the lives of fellow veterans. Here are three stories of veterans and company leaders who have assisted ex-soldiers in finding employment and set up nonprofit organizations to support them. https://lnkd.in/ezahsd59
