My Honours student, Jane (Jiabao) Tian, has recently published a review article in IJMS as part of the Special Issue Molecular Research and New Therapy in Melanoma and Other Skin Cancers. This paper provided an overview of major immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies and discussed the essential immune characteristics linked to how patients respond to or resist therapy. The paper also outlined the fundamental biological elements, such as cellular makeup and communication networks within tumors, to deepen our comprehension of how immunotherapy interacts with melanoma. This exploration offers valuable insights for future research, aiding in the identification of drug targets and predictive biomarkers. "Lifileucel is the first TIL therapy to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. And it is the first immune-cell therapy to win FDA approval for treating solid tumors such as melanoma," says Sara Reardon. This is a breakthrough for modern medicine. It will pave the way for TILs to be used to treat other cancers, including lung and pancreatic tumors, in the near future. Looking forward to what lies ahead. #TIL #Tumors #Oncology #Medicine #Healthcare #Cancer

Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) represent a significant breakthrough in breast cancer treatment, providing a targeted approach that delivers cytotoxic agents directly to cancer cells while minimizing harm to healthy tissues. This precise delivery reduces systemic exposure and associated side effects, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

🚀 New Study Published! Our research on #PDL1 expression in bladder cancer using cytoinclusion is now available. 🔬 Cytoinclusion Technique: A minimally invasive method converting cytological samples into paraffin blocks for detailed analysis. 📊 Key Findings: PD-L1 detected in 42.8% (negative/papilloma), 10% (low-grade), and 66.8% (high-grade) tumors via cytoinclusion. High diagnostic concordance with histopathology. 🧪 Conclusion: #Cytoinclusion shows promise as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for bladder cancer. 📄 Read More: https://lnkd.in/dbfqhRg2 Angelo Porreca, Luca Di Gianfrancesco, Alessandro Crestani, Antonio Amodeo, Paolo Corsi, Eugenio Miglioranza, Giuliana Lista, Francesca Simonetti

#inflammation #cancerresearch #oncology https://lnkd.in/ehkRsQn7 An #inflammatory #microenvironment, either conferred by an underlying chronic overt or smoldering inflammatory condition constitutes a prerequisite and fuel to essentially all #cancers. The complex reciprocal interplay of different cell types in the tumor microenvironment (TME) determines patient outcome. Apart from the actual tumor cells, local and recruited nonmalignant cells as well as the intestinal #microbiome actively shape polarization and plasticity of cells in the TME, thereby augmenting protumorigenic and prometastatic inflammatory processes. Here, we address the universality of inflammation in carcinogenesis, review distinct forms of tumor related inflammation and highlight critical processes in the TME actively sustaining a nurturing incubator for cancer progression and therapy resistance.

Melatonin suppression through exposure to blue-rich light at night has for many years been associated in the medical literature with increased risk of several cancers, including prostate, breast, thyroid and colorectal cancer. It has now been proven through laboratory experimentation that melatonin also suppresses bladder cancer - the corollary of which is that suppressing melatonin production through exposure to blue-rich light at night will probably also enhance the risk of bladder cancer. https://lnkd.in/dgBYBeqW How much more evidence is needed of the harmful effects that can be caused by melatonin suppression by blue-rich LED lighting - as initially noted in 2016 by the American Medical Association and Public Health England, medical expert organisations that both advised against the use of high-CCT LEDs for public lighting - before our governments will ACKNOWLEDGE the evidence and LEGISLATE to remove blue-rich lighting from our nocturnal environment?
