Today, the theme of the UHC day spotlights the critical role governments play in achieving Universal Health Coverage, ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all. As a clinician with a background in the private and public health sectors, and in health insurance, I’ve seen firsthand how government and leadership shape health outcomes. The executive order by the Governor of Lagos State on health insurance coverage through the Lagos State Health Management Agency has been a welcome development. It has been wonderful being part of the mymdoc team driving a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project leveraging telehealth to improve health insurance adoption and provide access to healthcare delivery in Lagos State, the DigiFirst Project. This collaboration exemplifies how the private sector can complement government efforts, offering innovative solutions that scale access and resilience. Achieving UHC demands strong government frameworks, but it also thrives on partnerships that amplify impact.
