An exercise intended to help you visualize the experience of staying with the breath as your focus of attention. We’ll use the analogy of the ocean as the mind, your body as a vessel, the skipper sailing the vessel as your breath, the helm as that place in your body you feel the breath more strongly (belly, chest, throat, nostrils) and “you” as the awareness of it all. There’ll be times that you may get distracted by “birds and clouds” flying over (thoughts, daydream), letting the vessel unattended and adrift. Just keep attentively watching the skipper inside the vessel that is quietly navigating through the sea of life and it won´t go off course. The metaphor of the vessel as your body, the skipper as your breath, the breeze as the air you breathe in and out, and the waves as the bodily sensation produced by the movement of the breath will help you to have a visual idea of body and mind working together.
