Are You Leaving Money on the Table? The untold story of the biggest secret in business Travel: The Missing Hotel Bookings. I’ve been working in the travel industry my entire adult life. I love the people. I love the camaraderie. I love the technology that enables us to send people around the world. Even through all the disruptions we've been through just these last few days, we are a tight-knit industry built on relationships and unique intricacies. But there’s always been this one thing I couldn’t get my head around... Why do we focus so obsessively on booking flights and overlook the simple opportunity of adding a hotel stay? The classic upsell—“Would you like fries with that?”—surely applies,yet, in my 20 years of experience, I’ve seen most TMCs only book hotels around 20% of the time. Upselling to existing customers has got to be the most cost-effective and rewarding strategy. On the surface, I could use industry jargon to say that fragmented and complicated booking processes are leaving substantial untapped revenue potential. But let’s be real—our industry is leaving money on the table. Lots of it. Let’s do some simple quick math. Increasing your hotel attachment rate is the simplest way to add to your revenue.
