World Mental Health Day, celebrated annually on October 10th, is a powerful reminder to raise awareness about mental health issues and encourage support for mental well-being. It provides a crucial opportunity for stakeholders working on mental health to come together, share their work, and highlight what more can be done to make mental health care accessible for all. This year, the theme set by the World Federation of Mental Health is workplace mental health, underscoring the importance of promoting mental well-being within organizations. On this day, and beyond, let’s remember to check in with friends, family, and colleagues. Open conversations about mental health are essential to helping us navigate life’s challenges. We are pleased to share that our National VP of Health Solutions, Judy Plotkin (she/her), will be joining the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP) as a guest speaker for a complimentary webcast on October 10, 2024, alongside LaBarron Burwell MSA, CWP, CEAP, Faculty and Employee Assistance (FEAP) Consultant at UVA Health. As the premier educational organization dedicated to providing the diverse employee benefits community with objective, solution-oriented education, the IFEBP is hosting this important session to explore the critical role of leadership in supporting mental health in the workplace. As a leading benefits consulting firm, People Corporation is proud to collaborate with industry experts to foster discussions that can reshape workplace wellness. This event is a must-attend for HR professionals, leaders, and anyone committed to creating a healthier, more supportive work environment. October is National Emotional Wellness Month—a perfect opportunity for HR teams to focus on supporting employees’ mental well-being. As HR professionals, we can make a huge difference by creating an open environment where mental health conversations are welcomed and resources are accessible. Here are a few ways we can lead the way: Promote Available Resources: Make sure employees know about the mental health benefits, counseling, or Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that are available. Encourage Work-Life Balance: Remind managers and teams about the importance of respecting boundaries, taking breaks, and using vacation days. Foster Open Conversations: Encourage an environment where employees feel comfortable discussing mental health and sharing their experiences. Let’s use this month as a reminder to prioritize emotional wellness—not just for our teams, but for ourselves as well. How are you supporting emotional wellness in your workplace? #humanresources #employeesupportt #changemanagement

Given May is Mental Health Awareness month, I'll take the opportunity to highlight how company culture and leader effectiveness impacts mental health. These statistics from Mental Health America's 2023 Mind the Workplace Survey are enlightening: >81% of workers report that workplace stress affects their mental health, compared to 78% of respondents in 2021 > 34% of employees experience microaggressions at work >Also 8-in-10 workers who feel psychologically safe in their workplace report that workplace stress does not affect their mental health Thankfully, more organizations are expanding resources to support mindful leadership skills training and psychological safety. While providing access to effective and high quality mental health treatments is foundational, leading employers now recognize that having mindful leaders and healthy workplace cultures gives them the competitive edge from a talent retention and employee well-being perspective. As a client recently told me "we're not asking our managers and leaders to be therapists, we simply want them to be part of the solution". #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness Sources: https://lnkd.in/gPdiMry9
