➡️ My guest this #WhisperersWednesday is the GOAT, the greatest of all time CIO, Rob Carter. Rob was the CIO of FedEx for almost a quarter of a century, six times the average tenure of a CIO. He led his global organization to a mind-blowing 27 straight CIO100 awards, and while he was inducted into the CIO Hall of Fame in 2007, his greatest impact came in the 17 years that followed.
I’ve called upon a number of people who know Rob best to help me unpack his remarkable leadership story and legacy, the guiding philosophies and principles behind his myriad successes, and the indelible mark he has left on FedEx and the broader IT landscape.
💬 Mystery Questioners in this episode include Dottie Berry, Charlie Feld, Michael Glenn, Rachel Harvey, Ken Spangler, and Chris Winton.
We shined the light on American business icons Fred Smith whom Rob worked for, and Michael Dell, whom Rob knows well. Rob talked about their ability to evolve their leadership styles and successfully lead their companies over decades.
Quoting my podcasting mentor and Tech Whisperers super fan Kelly Roberts, who says "everyone has a story," I prompted Rob to share several rich stories highlighting his career learnings and failures.
#Tech4Good: Rob designated CodeCrew in Memphis as the recipient of a scholarship to O&A’s 9-month, cohort-based TechLX program. To date, we have committed over $350,000 in scholarships across three dozen STEM non-profits to develop future technology leaders.
