The holidays are almost here, and your list of to-dos AND commitments covers your calendar through the end of the year. Stress aside, the nostalgia of the holidays tugs at your heartstrings, pulling you toward the climax of the season when your dinner table is full, and everyone is together. In your imagination, the scene has that perfect holiday atmosphere. Yet, here you are, a week or two away from the first guests, and there’s hardly enough time to do everything you HAVE to do. Finding time for the things you WANT to do seems predestined for next year instead!! But is this really an all or nothing game? With a few time-efficient updates, you still have a GREAT deal of power to turn your home into the holiday haven you’ve imagined... https://lnkd.in/dTwR3aKH

👩🏻🏫 Term 4 begins. And the end of the year feels closer. ⏰ We’re already two weeks into the final quarter of the year. 🥅 The goals for the year are being reviewed. What still needs to be done, what can be diverted, cancelled or delegated? 🎬 This is often a time of year when there’s a flurry of action and change. 🌅 Having returned from our reccy I am choosing how to face the action needed from now til we leave in January. ✅ I choose to think of this pre-adventure period as part of the adventure. ✅ I choose to create focus on what’s important and not let myself get distracted in the new and shiny (IYKYK). ✅ I choose to lean into my word of the year, human. I will do what I can. I will not always nail it, but knowing myself, I am putting the right things in place to get through a busy time with success and wellbeing in tact. ❓What do you need to do to get through the busy season and round out 2025 in the way you want. Having achieved what’s important to you. And allowing you to enjoy your holidays without needing to spend them recovering.

I am elated to see how many of you agree that taking time away from work is important. We are aligned. ✔ Now, I'm going to up the ante. If your company offers it...take a 3-week long vacation. In my corporate career, I often received shocked responses when I shared that I would be away for three weeks at a time. Listen, I'll settle for 2, but only taking 1-week simply doesn't cut it. Hear me out: 1. How much are you REALLY able to disconnect when you are only missing in action for 5 days? (especially if your work email follows you on your phone). 2. Chances are, if you are a decision-maker, people will simply wait for your return to get things done. I mean, it's only a week, it can wait, right? Which brings me to: 3. If you are a people leader, it's imperative that you are empowering people on your team to step in for you when you are away. It's good for you, AND it's good for them. Isn't that what people development is all about?? Which brings me to my last point. Apologies for any offense, but... 4. Get over yourself, you're not that important. If you have created an environment where things will fall apart if you are away, you've done a disservice to yourself and everyone around you. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Have you taken long periods of time away from work for vacation? What can you start doing now to make it possible in the future? Does anyone out there take more than 3 weeks at a time? What tips can you share with others?
If you're looking for a sign, this is it. Take the vacation. Put it on your calendar, work through the details, and take the vacation. You'll be a better person for it.

I used to spend Saturdays trying to figure out my entire life. Not only was it painful to do but it lasted about five seconds. It turns out that one Saturday is really not enough to figure out every single detail about my life, who knew. Maybe it would have been different on a Sunday? I cannot figure out my entire life in one day or probably even a week. This is how I helped it make sense to me. It is the equivalent of going on a road trip, putting the destination in your GPS, setting cruise control and letting go of the wheel. You are going to get off course and maybe even crash. Life is full of twists and turns, changing lanes, on ramps and off ramps and sometimes even changing your destination. So instead of trying to figure out my entire life on a Saturday I am now just focusing on figuring out the next week. What is It that I want to try in the next week to make my life better? What is it that I need to stop doing next week to make my life better?
