Colchester Arts Centre is a great #ThirdPlace in the UK. Stephen Rohan writes on MyThirdPlace: "Colchester’s Arts Centre has been running since 1980 (one year before I was born) and is arguably one of Colchester’s most important creative spaces. The venue is run by a dedicated team of locals who have a passion for music, the arts and entertainment. As a focal point of the Colchester community, The Arts Centre engages in lots of outreach work that directly benefits Colchester residents and others. Current programmes include African Families UK which provides a space for African families to get together, and the second is the recently formed Gamechanger Pt 2, which aims to help those in often-neglected areas around Colchester and Tendring such as Jaywick. The venue is also partnered with local and nationwide charities including Nightshelter and Colchester FoodBank, and it’s possible to make donations via the website, as well as donations to the Arts Centre itself" Read Stephen's full article here: https://lnkd.in/eHF_YFsk #thirdplace #thirdspace #socialspace

Here's a little video I did to coincide with my article in The Conversation on #bandaid40 https://lnkd.in/e7tu-XC3
'Band Aid, and the subsequent Live Aid concerts, became watershed moments for the charity industries.. Charity became a spectacle. Many famous people would use charity as a way to enhance their public personas, while the charity model itself would be affirmed within public and political consciousness as seemingly the only way to relieve suffering. 'Those who protested, saying that most charity props up an unjust system and is unlikely to lead to fundamentally positive change, were marginalised as radical thinkers.' Dr Colin Alexander, an expert in political communications at Nottingham Trent University, discusses Band Aid at 40. #BandAid #LiveAid #charity #HigherEducation

Music is the heartbeat of sociability, and a safe music ecosystem is essential to revitalization of downtowns and city centers. Everyone should join in this study to document the value of live music and performances.
In 2025, NIVA - National Independent Venue Association will undertake a national economic study to tell the live entertainment sector's story through research on our economic potential and our challenges. We can't do this without support from people who care about live music, comedy, and performance. As you consider your end-of-year 2024 gifts, I would ask that you donate to NIVA & our Foundation to help us fund this project. DONATE HERE: https://lnkd.in/ejmMjewg
