For comparison, I tried searching for China's daily domestic record but could not find a figure, so here's a simple (and very likely flawed) approximation: - During 2024's Summer rush, it reached an average (?) of 2.289 million per day * - Of which 77% were domestic flights - thus (ignoring that widebodied aircraft would be likely to be used for long haul international flights, but at the same time, domestic carriers may deploy W/Bs on heavy domestic routes), this is 1.763 mil per day This is despite China having a rather good high speed (and regular) train network. What are some of the positives for India's airline passenger market? i. Volume - no doubt, the numbers will continue to grow, with macro-economic factors such as a young population, improving GDP per pax, etc, driven by India's growth ii. Yields - as the average spending of the Indian consumer rises, more travelers will take to the air and the yields should rise as well. In addition, the propensity to spend will mean more discretionary spending on Full Service Carriers (FSCs), as well as ancillaries on LCCs (eg legroom seating, meals, baggage, etc) iii. Make in India, Take (flight) in India - despite the burgeoning traffic, both airlines and airports are determined to improve the passenger experience.
