I wanna stress. This point, international students are not the problem, they come here with hopes and dreams and they are essential to building this country and the future and the ambition that we set ourselves for a country. Starting in January 1st of next year in 2024, the financial requirement for study permits will be raised to reflect the current cost of living and as such a single applicant will need to show that they have $20,000 twenty $1635.00 in funds to support themselves in Canada. Today I am announcing 3 principal measures. 1A temporary two year cap on new international student permits. Effective immediately. Applicants must provide a provincial attestation with their study permit application. As of September 1st of this year, postgraduate work permits will no longer be available to public private institution models. Thirdly. In the coming weeks, we'll be announcing that open work permits will only be allowed and be available to spouses of international students enrolled in masters and doctoral programs, as well as professional programs such as medicine and law. Spouses of international students enrolled in other levels of study, including undergraduate and college programs, will no longer be eligible. So today I am announcing six additional measures. All right. And we're following some breaking news coming out of Ottawa involving students coming in, international students to our country. And we're the Trudeau government is once again cutting its own cap on the number of students that will be allowed into Canada, a cut of another 10% in 2025. International student study permits will be reduced by 10% from the 2024 target of 485,000. That means that only 437, 000 permits will be issued next Tuesday. I want to stress. This point, international students are not the problem. They come here with hopes and dreams and they are essential to building this country and the future and the ambition that we set ourselves for.
