Did you know..... the Humber is home to eight offshore wind farms including the world's largest? The Humber emits more CO2 than any other industrial cluster in the country. Almost half of all industrial emissions come from the Humber and Teesside combined. Quite simply, the UK can’t achieve net zero and grow the economy without decarbonising the Humber. By providing world-leading infrastructure and investment in decarbonisation, alongside innovation and technology that can be replicated around the world, the Humber presents the UK’s biggest decarbonisation opportunity. I hate to burst anyone's bubble or rain on anyone's parade here but I have seen 100s of these mutli-GW Wind and Solar +Hydrogen projects announced over the past 5 years. And what concerns me is the financial model of these projects. Based on the cost of $1.3 million per MW for wind turbines (industry standard) a 3 GW windfarm CAPEX will run $3.9 BILLION. Considering the announced loan of only $128,000,000 I'd be more impressed to learn where the rest of the 96% of the cost of this project is coming from???? Further - EVEN IF there actually were 3 GWs of renewable wind energy built to dedicate to the production of hydrogen via electrolzyers - to meet a capacity of 3 GWs of renewable energy - with each electrolyzer being 2.2 MW (industry standard)- approximately 1,364 electrolyzers are needed. 1: The total cost of these electrolyzers would be approximately $4.64 billion. 2: Who can supply that many electrolyzers? Now couple the cost of wind turbines AND electrolzyers - this Renewable Wind/Hydrogen project is upwards $8 BILLION! https://lnkd.in/gkJGiBg2
$128 million loan for World Energy GH2 to produce green hydrogen from the winds on the west coast of Newfoundland. The energy transition is happening. That’s where the money’s going. And Newfoundlanders & Labradorians will lead it.

It didn’t take long for a host of shysters to climb on board the gravy train. The bottom feeders were the people behind the raft of faux-green crowd funding scams like solar roadways and tree-shaped Savonius wind turbines which consume far more energy than they can ever produce. At the top was the scrum of corporations and their “green” NGO enablers, fighting to get their snouts into the corporate welfare trough of government subsidies and kick-backs. These are organisations which would have you believe that they are underdogs fighting an uphill battle against global vested interests solely to save future generations from catastrophe. The reality is that in 2022, they are a global vested interest worth some $900bn today and expected to rise to $1.2tn by 2030. And that’s just the direct energy. Add in the full spectrum of Environment Social and Governance (ESG) investing, and we are looking at some $50tn today, rising to $160tn over the next decade.
Net zero is dead – so what now?

#Devro Moodiesburn recently hosted the Acting Minister for Climate Action, Dr Alasdair Allan MSP to speak about #decarbonisation and the challenges for the industry on its journey to net zero. Sustainability Director, Muir Sneddon, gave Dr Allan an insight into our manufacturing processes and the ongoing Decarbonisation Sustainability programme the business is undertaking. Topics discussed on the day covered: • Removing the link between renewable electricity price from the gas generated electricity price. • Electricity non-commodity costs estimated to increase > 30% • Net Zero Project funding within food and drink manufacturing o Scottish Enterprise – good experience o SIETF England is at its 3rd. funding round, Scotland is still funding the second round. • Hydrogen as an option to decarbonise current thermal (steam / gas) manufacturing processes. • Cost and opportunity of geothermal e.g. as a Government District objective. We hope that by working collectively with Scottish parliament and by sharing best practices with all interested parties the journey to Net Zero for Scotland, though challenging, will hopefully be achieved. #Sustainability #NetZero
