🚨 Exciting News! 🚨 We are thrilled to announce the publication of our latest research article: "Focal cooling: An alternative treatment for drug-resistant epilepsy in a mesial temporal lobe epilepsy primate model—A preliminary study." In epilepsy therapy, the ultimate aim is total seizure control with minimal side effects. Our preliminary study explores the potential of focal cooling of the epileptogenic zone (EZ) as an innovative alternative to traditional surgery and existing neuromodulation devices. Key Highlights: 🔬 This approach could revolutionize treatment for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. 🌡️ Focal cooling aims to offer a less invasive option with fewer side effects. 🐒 Our study used a primate model to investigate the efficacy of this method. We believe this research could pave the way for new, more effective treatments for epilepsy, bringing us closer to our goal of achieving total seizure control with minimal side effects. A big thank you to everyone who contributed to this groundbreaking work! Your dedication and hard work are making a difference in the lives of those affected by epilepsy. 📖 Read the full article DOI: 10.1111/epi.18012 #EpilepsyResearch #Neuroscience #InnovativeTherapies #Healthcare #MedicalResearch #EpilepsyAwareness #FocalCooling #SeizureControl #Clinatec, Fonds Clinatec,Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives CEA-Leti CHU Grenoble Alpes Université Grenoble Alpes Grenoble Institut Neurosciences INSERM

Painting by numbers: publications edition! 🎨 In the healthcare industry, independent studies that are conducted by the clinical community for the clinical community are crucial for progress in the field, especially when it comes to evaluating new technologies that can influence clinical decision-making. It’s also important for such studies or publications to represent the variability and variety of clinical practice internationally. At #OxHB these considerations align exactly with our mission for establishing the reliability and impact of PreSize® Neurovascular. We are proud to see that the clinical community is just as excited and invested in our mission as we are, as is elegantly illustrated by the following stats📈 In the past two years alone, there have been 4 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 published about PreSize, involving: 👩⚕️ 20 independent co-authors conducting the studies and contributing to the articles 🏥 From 13 different hospitals 🌍 Spanning 6 countries in 3 continents 🥊 0 conflicts of interest You can read our publications here ⬇ https://lnkd.in/egxcxqhy #neuroradiology #neurosurgery #neurovascular #healthinnovation

🧠 Optogenetics: A New Frontier in Epilepsy Treatment Researchers from UC San Francisco, UC Santa Cruz, and UC Berkeley are pioneering a breakthrough in epilepsy treatment that could transform the lives of patients worldwide. Utilizing optogenetics, they've demonstrated the ability to control seizure-like activity in human brain tissue with pulses of light—offering a less invasive alternative to surgery. 🌟 What You Need to Know: ◾ Optogenetics involves using light to control cells in living tissue, typically neurons, that have been genetically modified to become light-sensitive. ◾ This method was successfully used to switch off neurons and curb abnormal electrical discharges in brain slices from epilepsy patients. ◾ The technique promises a significant advancement in treating epilepsy, potentially replacing the need for surgical intervention. 🚀 Why It Matters: This research represents a monumental step towards developing a non-invasive treatment for epilepsy. It could dramatically change how neurological disorders are treated, providing a precise and controlled method to prevent seizures without the side effects and risks associated with current therapies. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gihKCiNG #Neuroscience #EpilepsyResearch #Optogenetics #HealthInnovation #UCSF #UCSC #UCBerkeley

🧠Navigating the Ethics of Brain Biopsies in Research🧠 As we explore the potential of brain biopsies collected during deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures, we must tread carefully. While these biopsies can advance our understanding of brain health, they raise significant ethical questions—especially regarding informed consent and the balance of risks versus benefits. Transparency and patient autonomy are paramount in ensuring ethical practices in this complex field. I've become a big advocate for intraoperative reflex monitoring. These techniques have the potential to provide real-time feedback in cases where other modalities may only be conducted intermittently. Recent studies suggest that the disappearance of the blink reflex after the offending vessel is removed from the facial nerve has a better long-term prognostic value than the disappearance of the abnormal muscle recording. Here's a great example using the blink reflex along side the abnormal muscle recording (marginal mandibular stimulation) to predict postoperative outcome in a patient with HFS. The blink reflex and abnormal muscle recording disappeared contemporaneously once the offending vessel was removed. The patient is now spasm-free! Gut microbiota composition and metabolic characteristics in patients with Craniopharyngioma 🔎 Background: Recent research has uncovered links between the gut microbiota and various brain tumors. While associations have been noted in gliomas and pituitary tumors, this study pioneers the exploration of these connections in craniopharyngioma (CP), a rare brain tumor. 📊 Methodology: The research team conducted detailed metagenomic and metabolomic analyses on the gut microbiome of 15 craniopharyngioma patients, who were medication-free and had not undergone surgery, comparing it to 15 healthy controls. 🔬 Findings: Significant differences were observed in the gut microbiota composition and metabolic patterns between CP patients and healthy individuals, with CP patients exhibiting greater microbial diversity. 🌟 Implications: These notable deviations in gut microbiota among CP patients highlight potential new therapeutic avenues targeting the gut-brain axis. link: https://lnkd.in/dF5ApqVn #Craniopharyngioma #GutBrainAxis #MicrobiomeResearch #Neuroscience #MedicalInnovation #HealthTech #FutureOfMedicine #BiomedicalResearch
