After our monthly #CDO and #SeniorDiversityLeader forum this month, one message remains clear, in the words of Elizabeth Birch: #StayTheCourse. It continues to be a disruptive and unpredictable period in time, amidst all the chaos and divides. However there are still individuals, teams, consultants, leaders, organizations, and companies tirelessly advancing DEI - from those creating informed high-level strategies to those actually doing the work. Like many others, we at RISEQUITY are committed to pressing forward to bring everyone along this transition. How? Start with these three approaches: - #Accountability: Holding ourselves and others responsible for fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion, ensuring that actions align with our values. - #MeasurableData: Leveraging specific data-driven insights to identify areas for improvement and measure progress within DEI strategies and towards goals. - #Trust: Meeting people where they are at to build trust and understanding is critical when acknowledging and respecting diverse perspectives, experiences, and needs (every person views DEI differently and what it means to them) . Together, we'll keep pushing boundaries to create positive and inclusive change for all. #DEI #DEIB #InclusionMatters #KeepPushingForward

Adding the WHY. Why? Because it is beyond overarching statements of "doing the right thing". DEI work directly affects the workforce who contributes to a companies products and services; if your workforce is appreciated, heard, and engaged, productivity goes up. When efficient productivity goes up, it directly impacts the revenue (a perfect example of cause and effect). So much time is spent worrying about DEI rather than thinking about how DEI can enhance workplace. Here is an exercise to try regarding diversity: Our differences are what make us diverse. ("Differsity" anyone?) Have a conversation with someone today that is not who you normally would speak with - whether at work, outside (or even inside) your own neighborhood, and in your community. Listen more than you speak. Ask questions. Be genuine in your curiosity to know more about the other person. And try to refrain from only trying to find the connecting threads that would connect you with the other person by countering with your own experiences - let their words resonate and see how it makes you feel...think...respond...as mentioned above, feeling heard is critical to building trust.
