#PressRelease: NACCHO has released two new policy statements regarding strategies to prevent intimate partner violence and protecting public health authority for local health departments. In recent years, efforts to undermine the legal authority of public health officials has been seen at the federal, state, and local level. NACCHO’s policy statement expresses support for policies that aim to ensure that public health officials can continue to protect the health of everyone living in the United States and supports legislation and policies that affirm public health authority. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is common and impacts millions of people in the United States each year. NACCHO’s policy statement expresses support for public health approaches at the national, state, and local levels that promote community partnerships, legal protections, housing and other basic needs, and prevention, intervention, and education. ➡️Read the full press release here: https://ow.ly/Wjac50SnXQX

Did you know? Research examining civic engagement and state health outcomes between 1996 and 2020 revealed a positive association: states with higher levels of civic engagement and voter participation tend to experience improved public health outcomes. Additionally, the Health & Democracy Index analysis has demonstrated that states with inclusive voting policies and fewer voting barriers exhibit better health outcomes; conversely, states with restrictive voting policies tend to have worse health outcomes. According to the Index, these voting barriers also contribute to the exacerbation of existing health disparities, such as disparities in infant mortality rates. 🧠 Are you a researcher feeling frustrated by the NIH grants process? We know firsthand how challenging it can be to write grant proposals that stand out—especially when you feel like you're undergoing trial by fire on how to secure federal funding. You know the stakes are high, and so much of your time and energy can go into chasing elusive funding. Here are just a few common struggles we hear from PIs: 🔹 Not knowing where to start when it comes to finding the right funding opportunities. 🔹 Uncertainty about what reviewers really want from your application—what will convince them? 🔹 Struggling to clearly and persuasively frame your research in the way that speaks to both the science and the NIH’s priorities. 🔹The resubmission process—how do you go from not funded to funded? 💡 That’s where CareerVolt's NIH Grant Writing Boot Camp comes in. This 2-day intensive workshop is designed to give you actionable tools and strategies to craft a persuasive, competitive proposal. Through hands-on activities, we focus on: ✅ How to target the right NIH opportunities and position your application for success ✅ Refining your Specific Aims page, a key element that can make or break your application ✅ Learning how to communicate your research in a way that aligns with what reviewers and funders are really looking for ✅ Reducing the stress, confusion, and fear surrounding grant writing so you can focus on your science Most important--you don't have to try to figure this all out on your own. Here's one example of how past attendees felt after the workshop: "I am actually excited to go back and apply what I've learned to future applications as well as other scientific writing. The presenters really broke down the elements and re-framed the entire process so it feels doable; and funding seems achievable." - Faculty member at University of New Mexico Hosted by Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health's SHARP program since 2020, this workshop sells out quickly, so don’t miss your chance to register: https://lnkd.in/enV8qBRE 🗓 November 12-13, 2024 Live, virtual training #NIH #grantwriting #researchfunding #academicresearch #careerdevelopment #publichealth #grantproposals

ProVention Health’s Executive Director, John William Patton, and HALT’s Director of Success, Kim Zientek, shared HALT’s disease prevention education with Community Health Workers at the Southeast Community Health Worker Network Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. Hundreds of Community Health Workers (CHWs) can immediately benefit from their state’s licensing of the HALT platform. HALT’s business model offers 100% free access to residents in states with a HALT license. This means churches, community centers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), local health departments, and YMCA of the USA can all utilize HALT’s online disease prevention education programs. “This conference is clear evidence of the significant demand among Community Health Workers for tools like HALT to reach underserved populations!” said John Patton, Executive Director. Special mention to DoLS within "The state of health care and adult social care report in England 2023/24". I agree that the current DoLS is a broken system as it was designed for a pre-Cheshire West time with relatively few applications. Local authorities are often significantly under-resourced to process increasing volumes of DoLS applications, as their funding has not increased in line with the number of people requiring assessments. The challenge for local authorities is to ensure DoLS are in line with MCA and care plans, ensuring that people should be cared for in a way that least restricts their rights and freedoms. This process must be person-centred and consider information on how people’s emotional and physical wellbeing is protected. #SEND #DoLS https://lnkd.in/d_TUuiBQ
