Happy Friday. I created a wine blog called Grape Libations and would love for anyone interested in wine to check it out. https://lnkd.in/gutQsjTb I wanted to combine my passions of wine education and writing to teach readers about wine in a way that is approachable and fun. With wine comes pinkies-up stereotypes that can be intimidating. The goal of Grape Libations is to make learning about wine enjoyable -- there's no reason to fear alcoholic grape juice. Yes, it can be frightening when someone says "complex" or "nuanced" as they sip. But you don't have to say anything but "yummy" or "good." Wine can be whatever you want it to be -- nuanced and intricate or just something you enjoy drinking to relax after a long day. But if you want to learn more about what's in your glass, check out my blog. Grape Libations is for anyone who likes wine, regardless of knowledge of the subject.

"My dinner with Kermit" is an article first published in Wine Lovers Page in March 2001. Go to https://lnkd.in/gT9iPfRG It is indeed an accounting of one of the numerous memorable dinners I've enjoyed with Kermit Lynch between the late '80s and early 2000s. A snippet from our conversation that particular night: "Like fast food, says Lynch, modern day winemaking is all about 'pop'... Big companies, and even small farmers and winemakers, are asking, 'what kind of wine is popular today?' And so they manipulate the vineyards and add chemicals to the wines to make that kind of wine. In the future they're going to be able to add a chemical called the 'Romanee-Conti' to flavor a wine... Who cares about what wine is best for a particular vineyard site? Nowadays it's all about uniformity, or else flavor descriptions like 'power' and 'explosiveness.' Somehow, Rambo has taken over the wine world.'"

The wine aging process creates that ideal tasting experience. The cellar space where wine is given the time to age and develop is what enables those chemical reactions to occur. This is why vineyards and restaurants build their own custom wine storage cellars, creating those ideal conditions that allow wines to age gracefully. Here are some the basics to building your own wine cellar at home. https://lnkd.in/g52-nPS3
