NAEYC and the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) are partnering on a series of reports and webinars to support ECE higher education programs and policymakers (within higher education systems and in state legislatures) in implementing and expanding ECE credit for prior learning opportunities. Join us for the first webinar on November 21 at 3PM EST to explore the CPL landscape in ECE. We are excited to have faculty from institutions of higher education join us to share how they are using CPL to increase access to higher education for early childhood educators seeking ECE degrees. Why is it that Govt and MOE authorities are not mentioning small class sizes in GEP programme? Extract: “Two former GEP students and two parents with children who attended the GEP also told CNA that the gifted programme stood out for its curriculum – with interdisciplinary content and emphasis on creative and critical thinking in smaller class sizes.” This call for smaller classes has been going on for a while! Yet it seems it’s being practiced for the more intelligent children. Sure those less intelligent and those requiring more academic, and even psychological help, need more help from their teachers…and this can best be achieved in smaller classes. So instead of breaking down old schools, let’s keep them and increase small sized classes to help less capable children to level up. This will make all school good school, as PM has claimed. https://lnkd.in/ggcukCN6

New NC State Belk Center Guide Highlights Faculty Insights on Supporting Adult Learners Despite seeing a drop in enrollment during the pandemic, community colleges have since experienced increases in their enrollment – especially among individuals 25 years or older. To support student success, then, it has become increasingly important for community colleges to adapt to the needs and challenges of these adult learners, who now make up more than half of their student populations. Given the unique opportunity faculty have to engage adult learners, they play a significant role in giving them the support they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. This new guide, titled “Faculty Perspectives Guide for Adult Learner Success: How Faculty Support Adult Learners in North Carolina Community Colleges,” discusses practical resources, insights and strategies faculty can use to enhance the adult learner experience in community colleges. Faculty from across the state directly contributed to the publication, including the foreward which was written by the co-directors of the North Carolina Teaching & Learning Hubs. The guide integrates lessons learned from faculty focus groups at NC Reconnect colleges – including insights related to the Five P Framework – and highlights professional development opportunities for faculty teaching adult learners.

Shortly after graduating from college, I moved to a Camphill Community in which I lived with people with and without disabilities and trained to be a biodynamic gardener. It was one of the most formative experiences of my life. Working with my body in the garden, growing food that was prepared by and eaten together with others in my community, caring for adults with disabilities who also showed care for me, taking responsibility for aspects of the running of the community—I felt purposeful and alive waking up each morning. In these young adult years, Camphill provided me with a meaningful practice ground for growing into the purposeful adult I wanted to become. For young adults coming of age today—in an environment in which it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, anxious, and ineffectual in the face of seemingly insurmountable global challenges—how do we create practice grounds for growing into purposeful adulthood? Are we creating opportunities for young adults to develop a sense of their own efficacy as powerful change agents? In Springboard’s first White Paper on Distinctive Pedagogies that Address the Meaning Crisis in Higher Education, we posit that it is possible (and imperative) to instill in young people a durable sense of meaning and purpose by creating opportunities to EXPERIENCE and PRACTICE living meaningful and purposeful lives. This paper is about educational conditions and pedagogical practices that speak to the meaning crisis and how they are practiced at four innovative programs: Seguinland Institute,Thoreau College, Outer Coast, and Tidelines Institute. The conditions and practices used at these four institutes encourage students to create shared goals and codes of conduct, see themselves as a significant player with rational purpose, and develop an intelligible connection with their environment. What conditions helped you to develop a durable sense of meaning and purpose? When did you first experience yourself as a powerful change agent? How do we ensure more young adults develop healthy senses of their own agency and true senses of belonging as we face an ever-changing world? 2moThis was a very informative webinar. It was good to hear from CAEL on the topic and the featured speakers from higher education institutions that have already implemented CPL at their institutions. I look forward to future webinars on this topic!
