Studying a business degree abroad was quite the experience. A challenge, to say the least. One I couldn’t have completed without my valued support network 🙏 So what’s it all about? (I’m often asked…) It’s a generalist degree. A platform to build an intermediate level of understanding of the cogs within any business (marketing, accounting, finance etc.) for which you wouldn’t have the opportunity or time to build yourself (because you’re taught my industry pros, as a full time student - in a condensed period of time) The idea is you exit as a more capable and understanding team player, one who can help integrate and drive forward complex business requirements. I think all organizations can benefit from this, so that’s the value proposition. How is it done? It’s essentially one giant history lesson. In my career I have had the privilege of studying technical papers to upskill in niche areas. It’s basically the same thing, but in business “case studies” which are written by professors around the world. Point number 1 is ALL universities (Ivy League, Oxford, Cainbridge etc) all use the same material. The differentiator is how the individual profs deliver the experience and nurture the learnings. This week marks Week 10 of Semester 2! Nearing the end of Year 1 at university feels surreal. This week we have been preparing pitches and presentations for Week 12. These are centered around our business plan we created for the end assignment. I have finished my research for this module and am collating my portfolio for the ECA. Data-driven strategies for crafting and delivering effective business support solutions. Since 2022, Exemplas and Leeds Beckett University have been working together to collaborate on developing new, more effective business support programmes for SMEs initially focused on business productivity and then business growth. At the heart of this developmental journey was the ambition to merge academic insights from research by experts in Leeds Beckett University with Exemplas’ 30-plus years of delivering business support programmes to SMEs largely funded by public sources. In Insight Paper 1 of a series of co-authored pieces we have outlined the six key principles of effective delivery practice and five programme management elements that informed the design of our productivity and growth programmes. These interrelated principles were identified through academic research and corroborated with Exemplas’ extensive experience of delivering business support programmes at scale. This represents a novel approach to programme design and subsequent delivery of business support.
