#MondaySpotlight
As we start a fresh week, we're excited to share a story from Kiryandongo District within the Mainstreaming Ambition Project.
Acayo Victoria, the Counselor and Chairperson of Parents with Disabilities in Kiryandongo district, learned about the Mainstreaming Ambition project through the local government, which collaborated with representatives from Asili Agriculture searching for persons with disabilities. At that time, Victoria had a child with a disability. Showing a keen interest in the project, she decided to register for this project.
Previously, the challenge for Victoria and others concerning farming was acquiring good quality seeds, leading to poor yields as they resorted to using low-quality seeds. The Mainstreaming Ambition project, through Asili Farm and in collaboration with Light for the World, provided solutions to these challenges, through a training that imparted valuable knowledge, and the distribution of quality seeds that significantly improved their farming practices.
Despite facing challenges like pests, Victoria witnessed enhanced yields. She successfully harvested over 7 sacks of maize, utilizing the produce for both consumption and selling. Despite the unfortunate loss of her child, Victoria, fueled by her leadership role, continues to advocate for improved support for parents with children with disabilities through projects like these. The project not only addressed immediate challenges for people with disabilities but also empowered them to plan for a more promising future in agriculture.
