Ensuring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in nursing isn't just a conversation; it's a commitment. As caregivers, our patients and nurses deserve nothing less than a healthcare system that values and reflects everyone. Let's keep talking, advocating, and striving for a better, a more equitable future. I started my conversation with one of the best leaders I know who unapologetically pushes through with compassion and rigor for what’s right. Tune in..thank you David Wyatt, PhD, RN, NEA-BC, CNOR, FAORN, FAAN!
When patients see themselves in their caregivers, healing gets stronger! Studies show patients are more likely to share openly and follow through on treatment plans when they connect with their caregivers. This is where diversity in healthcare makes a tremendous difference. The more healthcare professionals reflect the communities they serve, the better patients can relate and feel understood. This leads to better communication, trust, and ultimately, improved health outcomes for everyone! AORN will host "Together We Rise" a president's forum throughout 2024 to engage periop nurses in the issues impacting the profession and patient care. 7moThat was a really good interview. Obviously whe you go to the doctor for any particular reason, I never realized or thought about there being a shortage of African American nurses. Soooo, how do you increase those numbers? How does the healthcare system recruit more African Americans to nursing programs?
