Today as we celebrate #earthday I would like to introduce you to a group of individuals who have a #plan for climate change and for their #future. Smallholder #farmers! I say #individuals because farming is a family business that requires an individual's hard work, risk and perseverance in the face of uncertainty. There are no guarantees and no safety net, but the reward of farming is #sovereignty. Freedom to set your own hours, experiment, work in the fresh air and bring the earth to life - producing food that gives life. All month Trees for the Future has highlighted farmers across Africa that have a plan for #climatechange, offsetting carbon, adapting to a changing weather and rainfall patterns, growing diverse #crops, and creating mini ecosystems and microclimates on their 1-2 acre plots of land. I say #group of individuals because although these farmers are separated by borders, languages, and tribes, they have one thing in common. They are NOT waiting for others to have a plan - they have developed their own plan, that involves implementing a #forestgarden. 🔥 We're supporting One Tree Planted in its mission to restore lands that have been degraded by Forest Fires. As climate change continues to worsen, the world's forests are seeing more intense fires. These fires are increasing in both size and intensity every year, damaging vital ecosystems. With so many forests being lost in this way, reforestation is essential for the environmental recovery process. For every placement we make, we donate to One Tree Planted. It's not lost on us that effectively reaching supporters – spreading the word about and seeking support for important nonprofit work – requires paper. Here at New River, we seek to balance that resource consumption by protecting and helping renew our planet’s precious resources. We try to do our part by implementing sustainable business practices, and by advocating for and supporting environmental causes. Through The Nature Conservancy’s Plant A Billion program, for example, New River plants a tree for every direct mail job we produce for clients. Plant a Billion projects in the U.S. and around the world are rejuvenating iconic forests in key locations. Attention all volunteers Our Litter Watch team members will be reaching out to you soon (if they haven't already) about our upcoming litter-picking initiatives. As much as we are passionate about cleaning up our environment, we also have limited resources and can't endlessly buy new equipment. That's why, as an environmental charity, we value sustainability and the circular economy concept. Instead of buying new, we are exploring ways to reuse, repurpose, and recycle equipment to reduce waste and save resources. We acknowledge that life is ever-changing and recognise that other commitments may take precedence. Additionally, the challenging weather conditions have added another layer of difficulty. Nonetheless, we truly appreciate your unwavering support and understanding during these times. Remember: **do not throw broken equipment away or give it away**.
