🌍💧 Green Team Consultants and Tetra Join Forces to Tackle Namibia's Water Crisis with Portable & Affordable Desalination Solutions 💧🌍 In a country(Namibia) where 60% of water comes from groundwater sources, much of it is brackish or saline—unfit for human consumption. With Namibia facing its worst drought in a century, the need for sustainable and cost-effective water treatment solutions has never been more urgent. We are proud to announce that Green Team Consultants has signed a #Memorandum of #Understanding (MOU) with Tetra to develop portable & affordable desalination solutions for saline borehole water across Namibia. Drawing on Green Team’s extensive expertise in groundwater technical studies and hydrogeology, this partnership is set to offer innovative alternatives to conventional desalination, which remains prohibitively expensive for many communities and government programs. By combining our deep understanding of Namibia’s groundwater systems with Tetra’s cutting-edge desalination technologies, we aim to provide desalination solutions for reliable access to clean, potable water where it is needed most. This collaboration is a critical step toward ensuring sustainable water security for communities throughout the country, particularly as they endure the severe impacts of ongoing worse drought in the country's 100 years. Together, we’re committed to making a lasting difference for Namibia by delivering practical, scalable water solar desalination solutions that support both the people and the environment. We look forward to this development with Tetra under the leadership of Sabrina Rashid Sheonty, M.Sc., E.I.T. #sdg6 #basichumanright #cleanwater #solardesalination #salinity #drought #sustainablewatertreatment NAMWATER UNDP in Namibia Tjitunga Elijah Ngurare, PhD Fillemon Shatipamba SASSCAL.org Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia CCFN Community Conservation Fund of Namibia

As water stress increases across the African continent due to climate extremes, growing populations, and changes in land use, its fantastic to see the signing of an MoU between the Republics of #Malawi, #Mozambique, and #Tanzania for the Joint Management and Development of the Ruvuma Basin this week. Agreements for #Transboundary surface water and groundwater management in all aspects of water use must become common practise for the future of #sustainable water use across Africa and worldwide. #energy #industry #agriculture #WASH #landuse #landmanagement #SDGs
Transboundary water cooperation contributes to increased energy and food production, enhanced climate change resilience, and economic integration. Transboundary cooperation is critical in Africa, which has more rivers shared by 3 or more countries than any other continent. The AIP is proud to share the video below which shows the Republics of Malawi, Mozambique, and Tanzania signing an MoU for the Joint Management and Development of the Ruvuma Basin this week. Signing the MoU was supported by Global Water Partnership Southern Africa, and attended by Andrew Takawira. GWPSA which also hosts the technical support unit for the AIP will be the Executing Agency for the IUCN / Global Environment Facility GWPSA Ruvuma project, which is currently being prepared under the Project Preparation Grant phase. #mindthegap #investinwater #africa #sdg6 Alex Simalabwi Global Water Partnership Tanzania Victor Kongo Global Water Partnership

The development of Namibia's oil industry has the potential to significantly boost the country's economy. Current estimates suggest that oil production could double the size of Namibia's economy by 2040. This economic windfall is crucial for a nation that has historically struggled with poverty and unemployment.
🇳🇦 Navigating Namibia's Oil Boom: Strategies for Mitigating Risks and Ensuring Sustainable Growth Namibia, long overlooked in the global energy landscape, is now at the precipice of a transformative journey fueled by significant oil discoveries off its coast. With estimates suggesting reserves of up to 11 billion barrels, the country stands poised to emerge as a key player in Africa's energy sector. However, as excitement mounts, so do the risks associated with managing newfound wealth responsibly and sustainably. Understanding the Risks The allure of Namibia's oil reserves is undeniable, yet history cautions us about the pitfalls of mismanagement and corruption that have plagued similar resource-rich nations in Africa. For Namibia to avoid the "resource curse," it must swiftly address critical challenges that threaten to hinder its path to becoming a major energy producer. Building Regulatory Capacity One of the immediate tasks at hand is fortifying Namibia's regulatory framework. Outdated laws and bureaucratic inefficiencies have already led to delays and uncertainties in the licensing and procurement processes. To instill investor confidence, the country needs to expedite reforms that enhance transparency, streamline operations, and establish a robust regulatory body capable of overseeing the sector's rapid expansion. Enhancing Transparency and Accountability Transparency is paramount in attracting reputable international partners. Namibia's efforts to join the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) are commendable steps towards fostering greater transparency in contract disclosures and ownership structures. These initiatives not only reassure investors but also signal Namibia's commitment to ethical practices and governance. Strengthening Institutional Capacity Namibia must invest in developing its institutional capacity to manage the complexities of the oil industry effectively. This includes equipping local authorities with the expertise to negotiate fair deals, enforce regulations, and manage environmental risks associated with offshore drilling. Collaborating with Experienced Partners Partnerships with experienced international oil companies (IOCs) can provide invaluable knowledge transfer and technical expertise. By carefully selecting partners with a track record of sustainable development and adherence to global best practices, Namibia can mitigate operational risks and maximize the economic benefits of its oil wealth. Environmental Stewardship As custodians of pristine marine ecosystems, Namibia must adopt stringent environmental standards to safeguard its coastal waters and biodiversity. Robust environmental impact assessments and proactive mitigation strategies should be integral to every stage of oil exploration and production. #NamibiaOilBoom #ExtractiveIndustry #EnergyInvestment #GovernanceReforms #SustainableDevelopment #TransparencyMatters #AfricanEnergy

8moSo much knowledge has been gained from the Project. “Well done,” I’d say to the BCBU Team, with the support of the N-BiG Team. To what extent the knowledge will be imbedded into Namibia’s governance system will determine how this sub-sector will perform and overcome some of its critical challenges. It’ll be sad to see this Project become another piece of history without the full application of the wealth of knowledge deposits.
