Hunger games...with ice, please. There used to be no scheduled commercial flights at all between Portugal and Iceland. What used to be a lengthy multiple-stop 10-hour journey was reduced by less than half with the twice-weekly summer seasonal nonstop flights by PLAY airlines in 2022 between Lisbon and Reykjavik. These flights then became year-round in 2023. What about 2024? Well..."along came Icelandair". For the first time, both capitals will be connected 4 times a week...but only 2 days a week...and with just a few minutes apart from each other. Both capitals will be connected on Mondays and Fridays only...if you want to fly nonstop on any other day of the week, too bad for you. When days of the week and departure times are so similar (and probably price, too), what could be the key differentiator? Maybe the fact that Icelandair flies the infamous Boeing 737MAX8 on this route and PLAY flies the Airbus 320?! Lisbon-Reykjavik: double play or game over?!
