The long-term operation of #dentalimplants is challenged by implant-related infections, hardness & inadequate osseointegration. Avoiding implant failure is one of the fundamental reasons for surface modification of a dental implant because early bacterial colonisation can occur within minutes after implantation by microorganisms associated with #periodontitis. In circumstances involving peri-implantitis, although conventional therapy has the ability to decrease the population of several periodontal pathogens, microbiological parameters sometimes tend to revert to pretreatment values, showing elevated counts for several target microorganisms roughly 30 days after treatment. It is crucial to have more sustainable solutions to prevent infection and peri-implantitis so as to increase the succes rate of implants and the durability of dental resin fillings. #Nanotechnology, enables the development of surface modifications that can mitigate these issues. NANOARC #Biomimetics uses #nanoengineering to design & manufacture #biocompatible, functional quantum-phase #nanomaterials for integration within implants, to improve the osseointegration, soft-tissue integration of dental implants and resistance to pathogenic infection. #Quantum effects in nanomaterials occur at specific dimension (< 20 nm), offering a singular modification of the zone of inhibition (ZOI) of antimicrobial materials, for effective implant success and longterm protection. The ZOI is the clear zone surrounding an #antimicrobial agent, indicating a complete absence of bacteria on, or within a given perimeter, from an antimicrobial agent. The size of a ZOI depends on the antimicrobial agent composition, particle size and concentration. Quantum materials distinguish themselves from regular materials in terms of their exceptional performance e.g. while regular materials need photoactivation for antimicrobial functionality, quantum materials are effective in both illuminated and dark conditions, like the buccal cavity. The ZOI with quantum materials, can double or even quadruple that of regular antimicrobial materials, spanning several centimetres in radius. Dental fillings and implants designed with NANOARC Q-DENT nanoadditives can provide antimicrobial protection to adjacent teeth & deep into the root canal. Merely coating an implant or adding Q-DENT nanoadditives to a dental #composite or resin filling at very low concentrations, makes it hard for bacteria to proliferate as such providing lasting #dentalhealth. Q-DENT nanoadditives act as: - active biocompatible components within the composite of dental implants to improve the mechanical strength, osseointegration & soft-tissue integration of dental implants. - active transparent #nanocoatings for antimicrobial protection & better #osteoblast adhesion due to the biomimetic nature of the material, in promoting #bone growth.
