It was a great #honor and #privilege to attend my #first session of the Executive Council of UNESCO in #Paris for the UNESCO Ocean Decade. Feeling we are all #bound and #united towards making the best of our future for the greater good feels amazing. We, as scientists, are well aware of the #challenges of #water and #oceans all intricately connected in a complex #blue web matrix. 🔵 Thank you to Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, Luis Menezes Pinheiro, Mike Sparrow, @Srinivasa Kumar, Gilles Lericolais, @Yusuf Demirgul, Vidar Helgesen, Denis Chang Seng, Usama KADRI. You have been very welcoming and helpful during my first introduction as an ECOP (Early Career Ocean Professional). Thank you. A few months ago, I met older men who, balancing out their responsibilities towards the planet, said they didn’t care as they would be dead. This disgusted me. Then I met a businessman who was surprised by me because he felt I was starting anew when I shared some of the questions related to #water and #ocean that we, as scientists, need to answer. YES, I have a solid professional background. However, please acknowledge that learning is a lifelong journey for researchers, exploring the limits of our current knowledge, fitting the findings with our day-to-day life to better solutions. Somehow you know. This is like entering life : you may not understand it, yet you feel you have arrived into something well greater than just you and only you. You want an example ? For instance, this might have been MY first meeting with the IOC, though it was the 57th session of the full program. The first meeting took place in October 1961. This is like the ocean: A wave can always be called a "wave", yet you can never consider it the same as yesterday in any location on the planet. This would be pretentious and disrespectful towards the uniqueness of nature. And I seriously need to address this : There is nothing like the ocean to make you feel like a baby for the rest of your life. Every day, you learn more. Every day, you understand the higher complexity of the ecosystem of life. Every day is a fresh new day. All the exciting challenges the #oceans bring us are so fascinating ! There is place for everyone here - a great lesson I learnt from #Japan. #Life. Thanks to 🪼🌊☀️🧜🏼♀️🪸🐚💦🐕🦺🔬I would never change such a marvelous playground to swim in. The full realization of these initiatives remains crucial for transforming Africa's aviation landscape.
