Fish is the cheapest and healthy protein source: Protein can be found in red meat, fish, poultry, eggs, and dairy products. in addition, protein can be found in plants such as nuts, soy, and legumes (peas, beans and lentils). The recommended amount of protein for an adult intake per day is 0.75g per kilogram of body weight. This is around 56g per day for men and 45g per day for women. Protein plays an important functions in our cells to grow and repair themselves, and for healthy development of muscles and bones. Protein also helps boost immunity and works with the carbohydrates in our diet to maintain steady blood sugar levels and a continuous supply of energy to the body. When we eat protein, from any source it breaks down by gut enzymes (proteases) into amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins, these amino acids are circulated in blood to reach body cells where these amino acids re-assembled to types of proteins the body needs at that specific time. There are 20 different amino acids needed in the body, and 9 of these amino acids are essential amino acids. These essential amino acids only found in red meat, fish, poultry eggs, and dairy products .This showing the needs for these types of protein sources . Fish is the good source of cheap proteins combined with the presence of health omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids ,plus vitamins suggests that eating seafood is a better overall choice in comparison to red meat consumption. Red meat is a rich source of protein, but also very high in not healthy saturated fats. Omega-3 fatty acids, and omega-6 fatty acids plays a crucial role in brain function, and the normal body growth and development. Both omega-3 fatty acids, and omega-6 fatty acids are a type of healthy polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA). Omega-6 fatty acid helps stimulate skin and hair growth, plus maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and maintain the reproductive system. Egypt due to its location between two seas, and one of the top countries in Aqua- culture technology and production ( fish farming) . fish protein should be the main protein source in Egyptian diet in replacement to the expensive and not healthy red meat. Red meat expensive is due to importing most of red meats and animal feeds from overseas..

Incorporating antibiotics in poultry feeds: Well said comment from Dr. Mohamed Abd El-Aziz, MD (enteric diseases) in reply to the economist Dr. Ashraf Ibrahim regarding feeding white broiler chicken in Egypt with feeds containing antibiotics and the impact of such practice on emerging antibiotic resistant bacteria that might infect consumers causing enteric illness with no antibiotic’s efficacy for treatment. In fact, there is minimum concern from feeding animal / chicken feeds containing antibiotics, even such practice still debating sense 1980s. My personal opinion, adding antibiotics to animal/ chicken feed is important in eliminating enteric pathogen from animal/ chicken guts, and the emerging of antibiotic resistant from misusing antibiotics in human health without control (Purchase from pharmacy with no prescription) as in the case in developed countries is more serious in emerging antibiotic resistant than from animal / chicken feeds. Feeding animal/ chicken feed containing antibiotics to kill enteric bacteria (food-borne pathogens) such as Salmonella species in chicken gut, and Escherichia coli O157: H7 in animals (e.g. Cows) gut with withdrawal period from the time antibiotics are administered before slaughtering is safe practice for marketing antibiotics free meat. Such antibiotic in feeds with regulation will make chicken / animal healthy (free from these enteric bacteria) and prevent these food-born pathogen to contaminate food chains causing enteric illness and in some cases death to consumers. Recently, a new emerged technology is to replace antibiotics in feeds by probiotic bacteria. The mechanism of probiotic bacteria in feed is eliminating enteric pathogenic bacteria to attach to epithelial cell and proliferate in animal / chicken guts. This is competitive exclusion mechanism that is different than antibiotic mechanisms to kill enteric pathogenic bacteria in animal/ chicken guts. Finally, Dr. Abd El Aziz, M.D. highlighted FDA food safety protocols in handling uncooked meat and cooking at proper temperature that efficient to kill food-borne pathogens in cooked meat This food safety practice recommended by FDA should be followed by consumers . "Ramadan Kareem" - Have a generous Ramadan. This phrase along with "Ramadan Mubarak" is a phrase used as a salutation when interacting with people during this time of Ramadan. ☪ Muslims around the world observe a period of fasting and spiritual reflection. From dawn until sunset, Muslims abstain from food, drink, smoking, and other physical needs. This practice serves as a way to purify the soul, practice self-discipline, and empathize with those who are less fortunate. In the workplace, it is important to be respectful and understanding towards colleagues observing Ramadan. Here are some considerations to ensure an inclusive environment: 📅 - Be mindful of lunch meetings or team outings during fasting hours. Reschedule or plan them outside of those times. 🕧 - Offer flexible working hours, if possible, to accommodate the needs of those fasting. This can include adjusting start and end times or allowing breaks for prayer. 😴- Be supportive and understanding of colleagues who may be tired or less energetic due to fasting. In terms of dietary restrictions and considerations during Ramadan, here are some key points: - Muslims only eat two main meals during Ramadan: Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) and Iftar (meal to break the fast at sunset). - Suhoor should be a wholesome and balanced meal to provide sustained energy throughout the day. It typically includes grains, proteins, fruits, and fluids. - During Iftar, Muslims traditionally break their fast with dates, followed by a light snack or appetizer before the main meal. It is important to provide options that cater to various dietary preferences and restrictions. - Avoid scheduling work-related gatherings or team meals during Iftar time, as Muslims will be breaking their fast and need time for prayer and reflection. - Be considerate of colleagues by refraining from eating in front of them, especially during fasting hours. By considering these guidelines, we can create a respectful and inclusive workplace that supports your Muslim colleagues during the holy month of Ramadan. Wishing everyone a blessed Ramadan filled with peace, joy, and spiritual growth. #ramadan2024 #TheSpiritOfTogetherness #IPN

If you're a business that works into the evening or early morning, remember to consider this during Ramadan. For those working evening shifts, finding time to eat after fasting all day can be difficult, especially if they’re working with an organization that assumes they can just eat at any point. For those working different shifts, such evening, and graveyard, breaks for fasting Muslims need to be taken into consideration. These breaks need to come at specific times for Iftar (the time we break our fast) and Suhoor (time to eat before the sun rises). #WorkplaceAdaptation #MiddleEast #Ramadan #BusinessGrowth #BusinessSuccess
