A Shorter Line The Line in Saudi Arabia stands as a testament to the sheer audacity of modern architectural and engineering visions. The recent scaling down from an ambitious 70 miles to a more manageable 1.5 miles not only reflects a pivot in strategy but also highlights the intrinsic challenges associated with projects at this scale. Adaptability is key. Changes in scope and design are not just responses to unforeseen challenges; they are also reflections of a learning process that goes hand-in-hand with innovation. The Line's evolution provides valuable insights into the complex dynamics of building futuristic cities from scratch. We hope that critics and proponents alike can agree that the world needs big ideas. Whether it's The Line or another audacious project, each attempt to leap forward, regardless of the outcome, enriches our collective experience and knowledge. These initiatives drive technological advancements and push the boundaries of what's possible in urban planning and construction. As we discuss and debate these endeavors, let's remember the value in aiming high. Every audacious idea contributes to our understanding of what can be achieved and, importantly, how it can be achieved, setting the stage for future innovations that might one day reshape our world. https://loom.ly/Iz4mJCc #architecture #urbanplanning #construction

Those cool, futuristic buildings rising in Riyadh’s skyline? They’re not just eye candy—they’re also changing the economics of real estate. Modular construction, with its sleek, prefabricated designs, is speeding up construction and cutting costs. But there’s more than efficiency at play. These designs are drawing a new wave of eco-conscious buyers willing to pay a premium for smart, sustainable living. While upfront costs might be higher, the returns—higher property values and lower long-term expenses—make modular the next big bet for developers. Some key takeaways from SCOTT HENSHAW, Group Head of Design & Engineering, Red Sea Global, Dr. Hassan Alassafi, General Manager—Engineering and Construction at National Housing Company (NHC), Richard Abboud, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at Group AMANA and Wissam Hijazi,MaSc, Arch, PMP,CanBIM CP, VP of Innovation—MENA at EllisDon. Are modular homes the solution for the Middle East? 🏠 In this area, financial and time efficiency of the project is paramount. Especially today, with many mega - projects underway and the region on the brink of a true technological revolution and significant events 🚀 For example, events such as Expo 2030 in Riyadh or the 2030 initiative in Saudi Arabia present a significant challenge for local construction. The infrastructure will have to meet the requirements of residents, tourists, and event organizers - and modular construction comes to the rescue 🧱 It is not only fast and relatively inexpensive, both in construction and maintenance. Increasingly, it also meets ESG requirements, which is extremely important for the Middle East. Curious about what buildings in this remarkable region look like? Check out the linked article. #design #middleeast #sustainability #ESG #climate #realestate

NEOM, that series of mega projects in Saudi Arabia……. I believe that they are pivotal projects in that they precede ubiquitous architecture geared toward healing our mind, body and soul. This architecture participates in healing the nervous-system from the days of living inside cities: walled centers of international value production. What was once high-luxury in many other disciplines such as toilets, modern electricity etc. is now commonplace…. And this will soon be the case with living in architecture of abundance all the while with a calmed nervous-system.

⏹️ By itself, a well-designed building has the potential to stand for many things at once: shelter, function, program, beauty, feel, narrative, and a representative of a zeitgeist. But, when placed within a complex urban environment, that same building loses much of its iconic signal; its ability to communicate a story outwardly, and to telegraph a sense of place. 👉 🔳 👈 This is where placemaking and experience design step in as powerful tools for differentiation, resuscitating the idea of buildings as vehicles for communicating world-changing stories, and for incentivizing new behaviors. Placemaking turns space into a memory generator. Experience design visualizes the unseen, and communicates the unheard. 📢 I’ll be digging into these ideas during a presentation I’m giving on Nov 14th at the Cityscape Global Conference in Riyadh, KSA. In many ways, the development happening there represents an extreme drive to transform architecture of epic scale (new cities, structures, and districts) into experiences that outwardly convey the tantalizing (and complicated) narrative of hyper-progress. If you think I should connect with anyone in Riyadh or at the conference itself, please comment them in or DM me. Thank you. #placemaking #architecture #storytelling #experience #design

2024 is not just another year. It's about moving the dial in sustainability. Changing the world we live in, brick by brick. We know that using an innovative approach and new technologies can help reduce carbon emissions, green construction and deliver sustainability. We want to play our part. Architecture that we can all believe in. Creating a more sustainable future. Not just some random words on a page, but practical action. Here are some examples where we have done just that. At Woolridge View, New Milton, along with the construction team, we have deployed new technologies that make building quicker using Porotherm UK, the clay block walling system. At Coldeast Close, Sarisbury Green, a sustainable residential scheme, we met the standards for Passivhaus harnessing energy efficient technologies and materials. Buildings can reduce their energy consumption, translating into savings on utility bills. If you're thinking of starting a construction project in 2024, why not contact us here at KSA. We can definitely help and advise and incorporate sustainability into the design. #sustainability #architecture #construction
