Final Dragon 2.0 Crew #5 build completed! Each Dragon capsule, Crew or Cargo is capable of multiple reuses, so there should be enough to carry on missions well into the end of the decade. The Dragon is still the only means to bring science back from the International space station since the other Cargo spacecraft burn up on entry. As for Crew, Soyuz has not been updated in decades and the fate of Starliner is in a limbo. Future missions will use Starship by the time Dragon retires. It is remarkable that SpaceX is busy disrupting its own product lines before competition catches up with even Dragon 1.0. #spacex #rockets #space
What a way to end 2024: the 5th and final Dragon spaceship to be built, moving to Florida tp prepare for its maiden launch. Looking forward to an amazing 2025 for human spaceflight.

A groundbreaking new technology will enable the development of exterior spacecraft tiles that can withstand the high temperatures of re-entering Earth’s atmosphere over multiple, frequent missions. The process is the result of a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Sierra Space. This new Thermal Protection System (TPS) was created to meet the needs of a commercial space industry that is moving at a faster pace than previous generations of spaceflight and now requires more missions over shorter periods of time...https://lnkd.in/g6U4wcCu
