Did you know that all Whisky starts life crystal-clear? It’s in the aging process that it adopts the colours, flavours and notes of the casks it’s in with each individual whisky having a distinctive taste and profile. Initially considered ‘New Make’ after 3 years and 1 day of aging the SWA legally deems it Single Malt Scotch and it can finally be bottled or blended. 🥃 How is Scotch whisky made? 🥃 Single malt whisky is made from three basic ingredients: water, malted barley, and yeast. The process begins by mashing the water and barley together, then yeast is added to produce alcohol. Initially, the whisky is as clear as water when it comes out of the still. Its beautiful golden colour is acquired from the casks in which it's matured. ✨
