The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) under Joe Ajaero's leadership has been synonymous with strikes, economic crippling, and unfortunately, loss of innocent lives. One wonders what tangible achievements the NLC has made beyond these destructive actions.
It's unprecedented and alarming that a labour union would shut down the national grid, causing widespread hardship and chaos. This extreme measure raises questions about the true motives behind the strike. Is it genuinely about fighting for workers' rights or a political ploy to exert pressure?
Even if the NLC reaches a settlement with the government, can Joe Ajaero bring back the lives lost in hospitals due to the strike? The human cost of these actions cannot be ignored.
Furthermore, the demand for a minimum wage of 494,000 naira is unrealistic, especially for the private sector. The percentage of civil servants in Nigeria compared to private sector workers is minimal, yet the NLC's demands fail to consider this disparity.
Nigerians must recognize Joe Ajaero's strike for what it is – a politically motivated move. The NLC leader has transformed into a political leader, prioritizing personal interests over the welfare of workers. It's time for Nigerians to rise against this destructive trajectory and demand constructive leadership that benefits all.
