📢 Check out the latest issue of CONNECTIONS! ⬇ March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM). It has been recognized as DDAM since 1987, when President Ronald Reagan issued a public proclamation urging Americans to provide individuals with developmental disabilities “the encouragement and opportunities they need to lead productive lives and to achieve their full potential.” DDAM reminds us why we continue to fight together to raise awareness for programs and services for the people we support and the employees who assist them. Governor Kathy Hochul, the Senate and Assembly have all released their proposed budgets and now enter negotiations to determine the final spending plan for New York state. All three budget proposals acknowledge that the state must make investment in supports and services for citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which is a win! However, none of the proposed budgets fully address the very real crisis that has eroded the system they rely on. Our fight isn’t over yet. We must keep telling state leaders - WE MATTER! WE MATTER! The stories in this issue of CONNECTIONS reflect the strength and compassion of each of our local Chapters, and collectively show that we are even Stronger Together! Here is our first survey for individuals with a developmental disability and/or parents to fill out.

Jeremy Rockliff the states and territories were supposed to be looking after the other 90% of people with a disability for the last decade. Civic rights under the UNCRPD are expected unlike the progressive realisation of some rights these should have been forthcoming a decade ago. It is not to give a place to dump people from the NDIS it is to stop them being dumped on the NDIS because they have nowhere else to go. To provide service to some on the NDIS to compliment their needs. 27% of 100 billion if it is allowed to continue as is will be a lot more than providing what was supposed to be provided a decade ago.Health equity, education equity, employment and community access. Accessible homes. It is about inclusion. Whilst some advocates are incredibly more concerned about sexual services and masturbation The real issue is the sustainability of the scheme and the lives of people with a disability. Everyday people who just happen to have a disability. People are going without, the workforce is at failure level and 75% of providers are looking to leave the sector. This will be a disaster. Please Sir speak to someone who has some idea of whats going on and help to make this right. Don't politicise this. The hospital crisis is nothing compared to what will happen if this is not addressed. https://lnkd.in/gq8g77kz
