National Construction Code’s Post

💭 Did you know that a Class 3 building is a residential building that provides long term or transient accommodation for unrelated people. Class 3 applies to residential buildings other than Class 1 and Class 2 buildings, or a Class 4 part of a building. Examples of Class 3 buildings include boarding houses, guest houses, hostels, dormitory style accommodation and workers' quarters for shearers or fruit pickers. Class 3 buildings may also be 'care-type' facilities such as accommodation buildings for children, the elderly, or people with disability, which are not Class 9 buildings. There is often a fine line between Class 2 and Class 3 buildings, especially with buildings offering short-term rentals. The key difference is that Class 3 buildings typically have occupants who are less familiar with the building and have less control over its safety, necessitating higher safety standards.
