We know it's Cyber Monday but instead of encouraging shopping online, Cyber Choices are encouraging ‘open conversations’ between parents and kids, or even a debate in the classroom around online activities. Some great starter questions are: ❓Do you think it is ok to hack into someone else’s account? ❓Do you think it is just a prank for using a booter tool to kick someone off an online game? Find more resources to aid these conversations at ➡️ www.cyberchoices.uk

The internet is a bit like a jungle—beautiful, full of interesting creatures, and, let’s be honest, slightly terrifying. For kids, it’s a digital playground filled with fun games, learning sites, and hilarious cat videos. But lurking in the shadows are digital dangers: sneaky phishing scams, relentless pop-up ads, and the modern-day bogeyman—cyberbullying. If the online world sometimes seems confusing for us adults, imagine how it looks to a kid! Children may not understand the risks of chatting with strangers or sharing too much personal information. And since telling them not to do something seems to make it all the more tempting, what’s a parent to do? This guide is here to help you out! With a blend of practical advice, useful tools, and (hopefully) a chuckle or two, we’ll explore how to help your child safely navigate the online jungle. Get ready to become your household’s Chief Cyber Officer, armed with tools, tips, and a dash of humor to keep everyone safe and maybe, just maybe, keep your sanity intact. #SafeKidsOnline #CyberAwareParenting #ChildInternetSafety #DigitalSafety #CyberSmartKids

Funny story- When I was just in the beginning of developing interest in cybersecurity, and particularily offensive security and Penetration Testing, I started exploring Hack The Box, not aware that I am yet to have acquired the essential comprehension of concepts and grasp in the field to perform such CTF challenges. It hit me while enumerating a machine using Nmap. I knew two things back then: 1. I use Nmap to scan a machine 2. I am then presented with a list of open ports which I can somehow leverage So that's what I did. Acquiring the results of the scan, I noticed an open port: / - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - \ | 445/tcp open microsoft-ds | \ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - / And like a newborn baby that has opened their eyes for the first time - I began attempting to unravel the enigma of the newly-discovered, mysterious port. What did I do? I rushed online, never looking backwards, and relied utterly on the first result Google provided me with: Nintendo DS O_o (😐) Yeah.. I know. If not for a colleague of mine that absolutely LMAO'd on me, I would have kept beating my head against the wall, not understanding where I'm mistaken. Moral of the story: Getting a good grip of the basics is more important than it may seem at first, because without them you'd be making tons of mistakes and not understanding why you're making them. Also, it's good to have someone who will mock you every once in a while, as that critic might put you right back on track #cybersecurity #hackthebox

Also, check out www.cyber.gov.au for more reading on how to protect yourself and your children online. Does homework count as screen time? Yes, but it’s a different kind of screen time.
