Cedefop has released the 2023 "Vocational Education and Training (VET) Policy Briefs", highlighting key VET developments across the EU. 🌍 Key trends include: -More agile, resilient, and attractive VET systems. -Alignment of VET curricula with industry changes. -Adoption of modular frameworks and learning outcomes approaches. -Increased focus on professional development for educators. -Expanded work-based learning and apprenticeship programs. 🥁 Cedefop has just released the updated national "Vocational Education and Training #VET Policy Briefs 2023". The briefs cover #VETpolicy developments in all EU countries (except Malta, Ireland, and Czechia) and Iceland and Norway, and take stock of the actions taken by individual countries to upgrade their VET policies and assess the impact on advancing the priorities outlined in the Council Recommendation on VET and the Osnabrück Declaration, and defined in the national implementation plans. 📈 Among the key trends: 📈 ☑ #VETsystems are becoming more agile, resilient, and attractive. However, efforts to make VET flexible, inclusive, and quality assured are lagging.  ☑ #VETcurricula & programmes are being aligned with industry and labour market changes.  ☑ Many EU-27+ countries are adopting #modularframeworks & #learningoutcomes approaches. ☑ Countries are introducing #flexiblepathways and approaches to quickly respond & adapt to change. ☑ National policies are increasingly focused on ensuring systematic professional development opportunities for school leaders, teachers, and trainers. ☑ Countries have increased VET learners’ participation in #workbasedlearning #WBL, with expanded #apprenticeship programs reaching higher education levels & adult learners. ☑ Addressing the #greentransition in VET has been challenging, with few concrete actions implemented. From dependent to independent. Just finished another Trinity CertTESOL course with a group of trainee teachers. They all passed 🍾 and can now look for teaching jobs in the UK and elsewhere. When reflecting on the 5-week course, what seemed to work particularly well was how we scaffolded the lesson planning process. ✔ At the beginning, they needed to be taken through their lesson plans step-by-step. ✔ As the course progressed, they all become more independent planners, although some required more assistance and validation of their plans and activities than others. ✔ By the end of the course, most of them just needed me to have a quick look at their plans. All I had to do was make a few minor suggestions. Working on an intensive training course with adults always reminds me of one of Malcolm Knowles's principles of adult learning: 'An essential aspect of maturing is developing the ability to take increasing responsibility for our own lives – to become increasingly self-directed' (Knowles 1975: 15). Or, to put it another way, the whole point of scaffolding is that you remove it at some point. #tefl #teachenglish #training
