A devastating milestone has been reached in Gaza as the death toll surpasses 40,000, predominantly women and children, amidst ongoing conflict. UN human rights chief Volker Turk has urgently called for an immediate ceasefire, condemning the extensive destruction and violations of international humanitarian law by the Israeli military and Palestinian armed groups. Schools, hospitals and homes have been repeatedly targeted, leaving the civilian population in a dire state. The world is urged to act decisively to halt the violence, secure the release of hostages, and work towards a peaceful, two-state solution. https://lnkd.in/gr7wup57 Graphic: Faizan Khurshid/NH #GazaConflict #UNCeasefire #HumanRights #PeaceNow #TwoStateSolution #UN ##HumanRights #CivilRights #IDF #IsraelsWarOnPalestine #IsraelPalestineConflict #IsraelsWarOnHamas #CeasefireNow #WestAsia #MiddleEast

Today, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel to immediately halt its military offensive, and any other actions, in the Rafah Governorate; to maintain open the Rafah crossing for unhindered provision at scale of urgent basic services and humanitarian assistance; and to take effective measures to ensure unimpeded access to the Gaza Strip of any commission of inquiry, fact-finding mission or other investigative body, mandated by competent organs of the United Nations to investigate the allegation of genocide. In addition, the ICJ decided that Israel shall submit a report on all measures taken to implement this Order within one month. The ICJ’s decision comes amid growing international concern over the humanitarian catastrophe, which is unfolding in the Gaza Strip, with tens of thousands Palestinian civilian victims. PAM strongly supports the calls of the international community for a permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and prisoners, the protection of Palestinian civilians, the respect for international humanitarian law and the unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to Gaza. With the Regime's Fall, Who Will Stop the Bloodshed? At a historic moment when millions of Syrians celebrated the fall of the Assad Regime and breathed a sigh of relief, dangerous escalations emerged in #Northern_Syria. In #Manbij, a city long known for its coexistence of Kurds and Arabs, violent clashes erupted as Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (#SNA) factions attacked the Syrian Democratic Forces (#SDF). The assault left dozens dead, including civilians, and was marked by arrests and serious human rights violations, forcing thousands to flee, including most of the #Kurdish population. Meanwhile, 11 civilians, including 6 children, were killed while others were injured in a Turkish drone strike on al-Mastariha Village, in the town of #Ain_Issa, North of #Raqqa. Additional casualties were reported due to Turkish shelling on villages in Abu Rasin, Northern #Hasakah. These attacks come as the United Nations and the international community urge all armed parties to show restraint and de-escalate tensions. UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, emphasised the need to maintain law and order, protect civilians, and preserve public institutions. He also called for prioritizing dialogue and national unity while respecting International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and human rights as key step to toward rebuilding Syrian society. Amid these developments, while many celebrate a new phase of freedom, we must ask: who will stop this violence? The new Syria we dream of cannot be built on bombings, fear, and displacement. No community or minority should live in terror or face the threat of forced displacement! We are at a critical moment requiring collective efforts to build a nation that guarantees the rights of all its people without discrimination and ends the ongoing bloodshed. This violence must stop now, and a shared vision for a just and safe #Syria for all must be established. Let us all be voices for peace and justice for every Syrian! #HevdestiSynergy

The assault on #Northern #Gaza raises grave concerns of #genocide, yet the lack of #media coverage is obscuring the full scale of documenting these atrocities. Israeli airstrikes are targeting densely populated civilian areas, starving people, destroying homes, and critical infrastructure in violation of international law, which prohibits attacks on civilians and disproportionate use of force. The blockade of humanitarian aid depriving Gaza’s population of food, water, and medical supplies, constitutes collective punishment and amount to war crimes. The systematic destruction and lack of escape routes raise the possibility of genocide under the Genocide Convention. Without international media coverage, these violations go unchecked. Urgent global intervention is needed to #ceasefire

The most urgent thing is to PREVENT ETHNIC CLEANSING and help heal injured Gazan children, women and old men. But next to that is Netanyahu's real motivation in ignoring cease-fires, crowding certain areas so that US-made bombs can produce more casualties, and the pretense that Israeli intelligence--the most efficient in the world--doesn't have a clue where members of Hamas are hiding. That's treating Americans like idiots who'll believe whatever Netanyahu tells us. Much worse, the PM has bucked up against Biden when the president finally got around to realizing the US is implicated in war crimes by supplying Israel with whatever it needs and regardless of its efforts to erase Gaza off the map. I believe Netanyahu is working behind the scenes to make Biden look weak--it took the US president months for his conscience to reappear on the global stage. But with US cooperation (we continue to supply Israel with huge bombs and other killers), the PM makes Trump look stronger--and that's the neo-fascist strategy: the Second Era of Macho Fascists and Trump's Fourth Reich. Israel's interference in US politics repays Biden and Congress' generosity by using them to boost Trump's chances of reelection. The dictatorial PM believes, probably correctly, that Trump is even easier to fool than Biden is, and if Trump wins the election he'll expand our lethal assistance to please evangelical voters who support Israel (but not Jews). So the PM's plan is to take his time so he destroys all the Arabs of Gaza, while at the same time tilting the November election toward Trump. But Biden and his top aides, who are so geopolitically tough on Ukraine, are playing dumb in the case of Gaza. Instead, note how right-wing authoritarians circle around Trump, shower him with money--including the $1B he asked from US oil companies with quid pro quo promises and opposition to environmental rules designed to slow down the destruction of the Earth. Netanyahu, Putin, MBS, Trump, MAGA Congressmen and likely the Supreme Court's evangelical majority are all gung-ho against Gaza. It's Hamas that's supposed (and needs) to be attacked. Biden, knuckling under the PM's macho stance, has already lost a lot of the votes of young people, pro-human rights folks, and Arab Americans, and has strengthened the role of Iran in encouraging non-Iranians to die fighting both Israel and America. The Israeli PM wants a long war so he can retain his top position in the Israeli government and society: not only will a long war kill more Gazans; it will also give Bibi and MAGA more time to work secretly together to embarrass Biden and manipulate American opinion. Toss Putin into that devious plan too. And as long as Bibi is in office, he can't be tried on bribery charges still pursued by Israeli prosecutors. He's trying for "PM for life." He's got that in common with the other despotic "strongmen"--and that includes the admitted ambitions of Trump. #Gaza #Netanyahu #Biden #EthnicCleansing
We are horrified by the news of at least 40 Palestinians killed and dozens injured, including women and children, in an Israeli air strike that hit an area housing displaced people in Rafah, setting tents on fire. This area was a designated safe zone and this event reaffirms our repeated warnings that no place is safe in Gaza. Camps housing displaced people must never be targeted. The IRC urgently calls for Israel to halt its offensive in Rafah, for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and for the release of all hostages. International humanitarian law must be respected, and civilians must be protected. It is imperative that all parties uphold their humanitarian obligations. #AllEyesonRafah

Turning a Blind Eye: The Human Tragedy in Gaza The situation in Gaza – that prolonged, systematic erasure of Palestinian lives and livelihoods – is just another chapter in the long, tragic story of human rights abuses that the world conveniently ignores. For decades, the Israeli government's military actions in Gaza have resulted in thousands of deaths, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure. Entire neighborhoods reduced to rubble, families torn apart and a blockade that turns everyday life into a fight for survival for Palestinians. But hey let’s not call it "genocide" as that word might actually get people to pay attention. We continue to frame this as a "conflict" with two equal sides because that narrative is easier to digest. We can keep our hashtags, thoughts, and prayers ready for the ongoing cycle of violence without ever addressing the root causes or holding anyone accountable. After all, admitting it's genocide would mean confronting uncomfortable truths about international complicity and the failure of the global community to protect human rights. So, let’s keep up the charade and keep history repeating itself. Why change a losing game?
