Check out my case study on the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) website!!
April-Laurena Fifield began her engineering journey after her school introduced a GCSE in the built environment, piquing her interest. Now she is pursuing a Digital Engineering Apprenticeship at our Corporate Partner Laing O'Rourke, where she is discovering a wide variety of tools, software and tasks and has already been involved in multiple projects. Working towards completion of her HNC, she hopes to progress as a digital engineer and to raise awareness of women in engineering, as well as awareness of the benefits of apprenticeships. To mark the milestone registration of the 3000th female apprentice in Ireland, the National Apprenticeship Office launched a #GenerationApprenticeship campaign, showcasing the ‘Facts, Faces, Futures’ of women in Apprenticeship! This campaign drives awareness of the possibilities and opportunities that Apprenticeships offer to women and girls: ✅ Facts: Up until 2016, there were less than 30 females choosing the apprenticeship route annually, but this has exploded to almost 1000 female apprentices registering in 2022. ✅ Faces: Women are participating in Apprenticeships that were traditionally oriented towards men. ✅ Futures: Young women in school can take inspiration from these role models to shape their future careers. The increase in female participation year on year is extremely heartening, thanks to the efforts of guidance counsellors, teachers, parents and those within the apprenticeship system – educators and employers. There are now 66 in-demand careers across Generation Apprenticeship in exciting areas like engineering, recruitment, traditional craft trades and our own Biopharma programmes: ✳️ Laboratory Technician, L6 ✳️ Laboratory Analyst, L7 If you're an employer considering Apprenticeships as a talent pipeline to help sustain and grow your business, please get in touch with us: 👉https://bit.ly/47rBTSa 👉audrey.devlin@ibec.ie #Apprenticeships #3rdLevel #CAO #LeavingCert #VocationalTraining #IrelandJobs #EarnAndLearn Audrey Devlin Siobhán Dean https://lnkd.in/eKR3629D

Here's to a Happy New Year! We broke 20% in 2024! In October 2022, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Million Women in Construction Initiative. At the time of the announcement, women comprised approximately 11% of the construction workforce, with only 4% in skilled trades. The initiative seeks to increase women’s participation to about 20% by adding one million women to the industry. In 2022, we were sitting at almost 18% and it is especially exciting to note that participation by women in our apprenticeship programs has reached 20% for the first time, aligning with national efforts to increase representation in the construction industry. Today, I’m proud to share that the NECA/IBEW Local 48 Electrical Training Center has reached 20% participation by women in our apprenticeship programs for the first time! This milestone reflects the dedication of our team, partners, and the broader apprenticeship community to making meaningful strides toward gender equity in construction. Whether through pre-apprenticeship pathways, direct entry opportunities, or intentional outreach and mentorship, we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that women not only join our programs but thrive in their careers. This achievement is about more than just numbers—it’s about creating opportunities, breaking down barriers, and ensuring the future of the skilled trades is diverse and inclusive. To the women in our programs: you inspire us every day with your talent, hard work, and passion. To our partners and supporters: thank you for sharing this vision and helping make it a reality. Together, we’re building a stronger, more inclusive industry. Here’s to continued progress and even greater achievements ahead! 💪👷♀️⚡ Oregon Tradeswomen Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program #DiversityInConstruction #WomenInElectrical #Apprenticeships #WomenInTrades #MillionWomenInConstruction #NECAIBEW #BuildingTheFuture

The National Institute for Innovation and Technology, in partnership with Micron Technology and Northern Virginia Community College, launched a #SemiconductorManufacturing #RegisteredApprenticeship Program (RAP) in Virginia. The new initiative, unveiled on April 24, is part of the Institute's GAINS program, and is designed to forge pathways for workers through an innovative "learn-and-earn" model, which removes credential and financial barriers while substantially increasing access for traditionally underrepresented communities. "Registered Apprenticeships not only prepare individuals for lucrative careers in high-demand sectors, but they also exemplify our commitment to inclusive growth and diversity in the tech industry. By breaking down barriers to education and training in a format where individuals can earn while they learn, we are opening doors for a broader spectrum of talent to enter and thrive in semiconductor and advanced manufacturing,” said Russo.
