It's time to urge Congress to extend Great American Outdoors Act funding and invest in fixing our parks! So far GAOA has fixed trails at Mammoth Cave, replaced a failing water system at Organ Pipe, and enhanced campgrounds at Yosemite, Rocky Mountain, and Mount Rainier. But there are thousands of projects still on our list. Join NPCA in calling on Congress to address our national parks' backlog of repair needs. #FixOurParks #GAOA #ParkFunding #NationalParks

Lady Liberty looks pretty good for her age, but the 200-year-old fort that serves as her base has seen better days. The cold and windy conditions in New York Harbor, combined with storms and sea water, are tough on structures, and Fort Wood is no exception. Currently, about 50,000 highly visible square feet of walking surface at the fort are in disrepair, meaning the site can't provide adequate accessibility for visitors. An investment from the Great American Outdoors Act will change that and make the site safer for its 3 million annual visitors. Hundreds of projects are underway to improve national parks for the staff who care for them and the visitors who enjoy them. One thing is clear: our parks need more help. Join NPCA in urging Congress to keep investing in our national parks and extend GAOA by at least five more years! https://lnkd.in/ej6auypb #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct #ProtectOurParks #ParkFunding #LadyLiberty #StatueOfLiberty #NewYork

In 2020 the landmark Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) was signed into law. GAOA established the Legacy Restoration Fund, which provided unprecedented funding to address the growing deferred maintenance backlog in our National Parks. If that wasn't enough, the GAOA also authorized $900 million annually in permanent and dedicated funding for the Land & Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). Prior to the passage of GAOA, funding for LWCF relied on the whims of annual congressional appropriations. More than 45,000 conservation and outdoor recreation projects at state and local parks have been assisted by the Land & Water Conservation Fund since the conservation and outdoor recreation law was first passed by Congress in 1965. On September 30, 2025, the GAOA expires. Advocacy will be needed to ensure that the GAOA is reauthorized for another 5 years. Every state and every community that has received a Land & Water Conservation Fund grant has a story to tell. We are grateful for all that has been accomplished since 2020, but there is much more to do. Let's appeal to the new 119th Congress to consider and act on this important legislation, which improves the quality of life for the residents in their Congressional districts and communities. #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct #LandAndWaterConservationFund

This weekend marks the fourth anniversary of the #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct, a historic bipartisan investment in improving our national parks. Through 2025, GAOA's national park maintenance fund will continue to tackle essential repair projects in our national parks. However, this initial funding alone cannot fully address the impacts of decades of underinvestment, which have made these projects increasingly costly and challenging. To sustain the remarkable progress initiated by this act, NPCA is urging Congress to renew at least five additional years of the park maintenance funding to effectively safeguard our priceless natural and cultural resources and support the millions who visit them annually. On our blog, ten park projects underway from Arizona to New York thanks to investments from GAOA. #GreatAmericanOutdoorsAct #ParkFunding #FundOurParks #FixOurParks #ParkAdvocate #Conservation #NationalParks #NationalParkNews

In April, we purchased two properties adjacent to Big Basin Redwoods State Park, intended to support California State Parks in creating a new entrance at Big Basin, ensuring the long-term health of its old-growth redwoods, and improving access for visitors, especially in response to the 2020 CZU fire. Although only 10 acres, the two properties combine with 184 acres of land protected by Sempervirens Fund since 2022, in the conservation area the state agency calls Saddle Mountain. Combined, the nearly 200 acres of redwoods will be key in Reimagining Big Basin as State Parks envisions the relocation of park infrastructure like visitor services and employee housing away from their former location near prime old-growth redwood habitat. Both properties, located in the Boulder Creek Watershed, are sparsely forested with second growth redwoods and hardwoods and contain very impressive views of the upper San Lorenzo Valley. Sempervirens Fund now owns 6 properties in the Saddle Mountain Conservation Area, including the Gateway to Big Basin, Saddle Mountain Vista, and the properties that comprise Sterrenzee Ridgetop. Here's more information about the Saddle Mountain Conservation Area and why it's so important: https://lnkd.in/g52RwHCp

We are delighted to announce the installation of another eel pass in the county to support the critically endangered migrating European Eel, Anguilla anguilla. The eel pass is located along Rainworth Water at Rufford Mill at Rufford Abbey Country Park, thanks to support from landowner Nottinghamshire County Council (represented by Scott Carlton) and site operator Parkwood Leisure. The latest eel pass has been installed as part of The Three Rivers Restoration Project - a collaboration between the Trust and Severn Trent which aims to deliver a programme of essential measures to improve the water environment in three rivers within the Idle Catchment, for which Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust are the Catchment Hosts. The 3 rivers covered by the project are Rainworth Water, Vicar Water and the Bevercotes Beck. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/djKVEK38
