𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐭𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐧 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐑𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐲 Whilst the incidents of armed robbery have reduced over the last few years, incidents still occur, and they must be prepared. Just as important is that you, as the business owner, must identify the risk and implement appropriate control measures to keep staff safe. Let's look at some simple steps: * Conduct an armed robbery risk assessment * Develop an armed robbery response procedure * Train staff on how to respond to an armed robbery * Review your cash handling procedures * Review your opening and closing procedures Remember that robberies in the workplace will occur more likely just after opening or just before closing. Federal Protective Services (FPS) has a program called the National Weapons Detection Training Program that has the contractor do all of the training. FPS conducts a "Train the Trainer" course for the contract trainers that "Certifies" them based on the NWDTP training material. These "Certified" trainers than conduct training in the field at the sites where they have been awarded the contract. FPS also has Inert training kits that they developed to use for training and also covert testing. I am very familiar with the curriculum and their kits and both suck. I have been to FPS sites that are HIGH threat, and the guards had NO training on the equipment (NONE). I recently had a company that has several FPS contracts try and get us to use the FPS training material to train US Marshals Contract guards. Knowing the FPS training material I flat out refused to use it and when they saw what we were using a light went off. they too realized that the FPS material was complete crap. We walked away from that contract because the FEDGOV and the contractor we an accident waiting to happen and as a private company the risk was not worth it. Let me put it this way.... If FPS were to take their training material for x-ray, and WTMD and ask TSA to look at it, TSA would laugh their ass off. The same would happen for the US Marshals as theirs is almost as bad as FPS. What is worse is the US Marshals just adopted the same model FPS is using and has the contractor do the training. However, you cannot tell either one their training material and programs are a joke. What is even more embarrassing is that the GAO did this to FPS before and the NWDTP was "supposed" to fix it. As you can see it did not fix it.
