PFW 2024 Career Expo: Complete! ✅ Thanks to Alex Blauvelt’s recent “career search tips” post, I knew to #dohomework on the employer’s that would be at the expo. After doing my homework, I realized that only seven of the 80+ employers are currently offering opportunities that I want to pursue. Having narrowed down which booths I wanted to visit proved to be beneficial for multiple reasons… -the stress level of having 80+ conversations was eliminated -I was able to focus my conversations on how what I offer aligns with the few positions that I’m interested in -successful repetitions of clear and concise conversations built confidence -the time spent with prospective employers was minimized which honors their time and allowed them to speak with others also #onthejobhunt These things led to healthy, comfortable, courteous, and productive conversations. An added bonus: I left with some neat #professionalswag courtesy of PFW! (Pictured below) I’m feeling confident about the job search. Thank you PFW Career Development Center for hosting! Go Dons! 🐘⚫️🟡

Ahead of Tech Talent Live, as part of TechNExt, we spoke with Caroline Williamson, Skills Manager at Sunderland Software City, about why careers events are important at any level of your career... 🗣️ What advice would you give to others who are attending careers events? "My advice for attending careers events is to be proactive and approachable. Don't be afraid to strike up conversations and ask questions. Have a few key points about yourself ready to share, and be sure to follow up with new contacts afterwards. Making a genuine connection can make all the difference." 🗣️ What should you prepare before attending a careers event? "Before attending a careers event, it's essential to do your homework. Research the companies and professionals who will be there, and have your CV updated and ready to share. Prepare a few thoughtful questions and practice your introduction so you can confidently present yourself. The more prepared you are, the more you'll get out of the event." Don't miss out on the opportunity to attend... Secure your ticket to Tech Talent Live here🔗https://lnkd.in/eSKMe6Cu #careerevent #technext24

“Actions speak louder than words…” We’ve all heard of the looming lack of interest for our industry in the next generation… From stock footage social posts with an iPad, to even bringing drones or “tech” to career fair booths, I’ve seen so many different tactics to try to attract young talent to their teams. But let’s be honest, that’s like going to war with a pool noodle. Those tactics will never win the war with attracting the best and brightest talent out there… Explaining how your field teams is actually using technology and sharing real stories from your team is what makes an impact, not flashing some shiney new tech you have no clue why you bought in the first place. So if you are entering the industry soon, or looking for a new company to join, before you make your decision, connect with someone from their field team to hear the real side of the story…
