𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗕𝗲𝘁-𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 shared the story of a ship—Built by Northrop Grumman for $4.5 billion in 1991, this behemoth weighs in at 200 million pounds, spans three football fields, and can house 5,000 personnel. But it wasn’t the size or power that stood out to me; it was what this ship taught me about vision. Most ships need refueling every few months, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗦𝗦 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗖. 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀? 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗼 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟮𝟲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. The brilliance here isn’t just in its power, but in its design—𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. And here’s the takeaway: if your vision is solid and your goals are truly aligned, you won’t need constant refueling or motivation. Like the ship’s design, the power of a well-crafted vision can sustain you through the long haul. This has inspired me to think of vision as the driving force behind longevity and resilience in our careers or businesses.

I enjoyed seeing the interview of Radian Aerospace co-founder Livingston Holder. He discusses why their sled-launched spaceplane is technically and financially feasible. However, the horizontal launch method they propose has the disadvantage of needing heavy wings to support the fully-fueled weight of the spaceplane. In contrast a vertical launch method would use wings that only had to support the dry mass of the craft on return, resulting in much lighter wing weight. I advise Radian to do the trades to find which is the optimal method. Additionally, I advise they base the core of their vehicle on existing upper stages to save on development costs and technical risk. I discuss using the Falcon 9 upper stage and Centaur upper stage for the purpose here: Radian Aerospace Spaceplane. https://lnkd.in/gRnBEgej
Today's Payload Pathfinder episode features Radian's CTO and co-founder, Livingston Holder! Listen in as Mo Islam dives into Livingston's background as a former United States Air Force astronaut as well as our company's roadmap to develop the world's first single-stage-to-orbit spaceplane:

🌊 Celebrating Innovation and Resilience on National Submarine Day! 🎉 Hello, wonderful "Fabulous Begins at 50" community! Today marks a special occasion where history, technology, and the boundless human spirit converge—National Submarine Day. Let's dip our toes into the fascinating world of submarines, reflecting not just on groundbreaking engineering but also on personal growth and resilience that resonate with us all. 1️⃣ The Ingenious Beginning: Cast your mind back to 1620, when Cornelis Drebbel unveiled the first submarine. Picture this: a vessel powered by human oars beneath the sea's surface! It's a testament to human creativity and the drive to venture into the unknown—a reminder that, like Drebbel, embracing new challenges can lead to self-discovery and reinvention. 2️⃣ Breaking Through with USS Nautilus: Fast forward to 1954, the USS Nautilus sailed as the first nuclear-powered submarine, transforming naval exploration with its extended underwater endurance. Just as the Nautilus shattered barriers, we are reminded of our own potential to innovate and adapt, navigating life's depths with confidence and vigor. 3️⃣ Saluting the Unsung: In the spirit of honoring resilience and strength, let's acknowledge the Navy Submarine Widows. Their courage in the face of adversity inspires us to press forward, even when the current seems against us. They remind us that within each of us lies an indomitable spirit capable of overcoming any challenge. Reflecting on National Submarine Day teaches us about more than historical feats; it's a celebration of human innovation, courage, and the untapped depths within ourselves. Let's carry these narratives as a source of empowerment, reminding us that we, too, can withstand pressure, explore new horizons, and emerge stronger. To our magnificent journey ahead, here's to diving deep, supporting one another, and setting course for new adventures. 💖🚢 #FabulousBeginsAt50 #NationalSubmarineDay #Empowerment #Resilience #Exploration #WomenOver50
