2025 Strategy and Statecraft Fellowship Application The international landscape is undergoing significant geopolitical changes, including in the global balance of power. Several world-changing events have impacted society in recent years, including COVID-19, the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Israel-Hamas war, and a growing Sino-American rivalry. These events have far-reaching consequences across the public and private sectors and international politics. CSIS is continuing its effort to cultivate a new generation of leaders able to understand the tools of strategy and statecraft to address these issues. In 2025, we will convene a new group of executives to consider possibilities for crafting order from disorder. During the year-long program, Strategy and Statecraft Fellows will engage with world-leading experts and policy practitioners to better understand the changes taking place in today’s world and the way policymakers in Washington and other foreign capitals perceive these situations. Applications are due on Friday, December 20 at 5:00 pm Eastern Time. Talking to a few participants about the conference finding out how the conference has been so far and what their expectations are for the next days. These are young people of #AfAS, one is attending the #AfAS2024 for the first time and it is her first time attending a conference. What a way to start. The other one's research is firmly placed within science and society. The future is in good hands.

Preparing for the Annual CIMIC Foresight Conference: A Step Towards Collaborative Solutions As I prepare to attend the Annual CIMIC Foresight Conference (ACFC) of the NATO Civil-Military Cooperation Centre of Excellence (CCOE) in The Hague next week, I am filled with anticipation about the discussions and insights that will unfold. This year's theme, "Is the Current State of CIMIC a Recipe for Disaster or a Beacon of Hope in the Face of Crisis?" poses critical questions that resonate deeply in our rapidly changing world. 🔎 Understanding the Role of CIMIC Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) plays a vital role in navigating the complexities of modern crises. It brings together military and civilian actors to work towards a common goal: ensuring the safety and well-being of communities affected by conflict, instability, and humanitarian challenges. The exchange of data and information between civilian and military actors is more important now than ever. In an age of interconnected challenges, a seamless flow of information enables both sides to respond swiftly and effectively to evolving situations, ensuring that humanitarian needs are met while maintaining security. 💻 Traversals' Contribution: Real-Time Insights for Seamless Coordination I’m particularly excited to share that Traversals Analytics and Intelligence GmbH will be giving a demo on “Real-Time Insights for Seamless Civil-Military Coordination.” (Tuesday, October 08, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.) Our demo will showcase how data-driven insights can facilitate better decision-making and operational efficiency in a civil-military context. I look forward to connecting with fellow professionals and exploring the potential for positive change in the realm of Civil-Military Cooperation! 🌍🤝 #CIMIC #OSINT #NATO #Bundeswehr #CrisisManagement #Collaboration #CIMICCenterofExcellence #FutureOfCIMIC #DataAnalytics #RealTimeInsights #Intelligence #AI #Analytics response.https://

🌍 Foresight & International Security: First session kicked off today at Sciences Po ! How can we anticipate emerging security threats and navigate the complexities of global issues? That’s the core of our foresight course with Antoine Maire (Ph.D), which kicked off today at the PSIA - Paris School of International Affairs, Sciences Po. 🚀On the agenda: 🔍 Scenarios, policy stress testing, design fiction, futures literacy—because predicting the future is impossible, but preparing for it is essential. 🎙️ Guest experts from foresight defense, security and risk sectors —because real-world experience is the best teacher. 📝 Concept notes and strategic foresight exercises—because knowing is good, but applying is better. The goal? Help future professionals develop the skills and mindset to anticipate and navigate international challenges with confidence. Looking forward to the next sessions and the great discussions ahead! 👋 If you are also working on foresight in defense and international relations, let’s connect! #Foresight #Geopolitics #Defense #StrategicThinking #Security

So the UK Ministry of Defence dropped the 7th edition of Global Trends on the weekend... ⬇️ I'm only going to touch on the five scenarios so if you want the 456 pages of detail (there is a 48 page bite size verision too) link below ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gmStWSAw. The report "offers foresight analysis from a thematic and geographic perspective, complemented by five scenarios which describe hypothetical pathways into a future world order." ⬇️ 1️⃣ Existential threats drive a new multilateral accommodation - US, China and other major powers work together to solve climate change, space arms control etc. 2️⃣ The current system endures in a multipolar world - Cold War 2 but rules based global order keeps on keeping on with US leading. 3️⃣ Changing spheres of influence - Cold War 2 but China, Russia take the lead in a much more transactional global order. 4️⃣ Competition and decoupling leads to conflict and a deglobalised world - Trade wars, global arms race and fragmentation that may lead to war. 5️⃣ Incremental instability leads to a new networked order - rules based global order and nation states give way to the rise of non state actors including city states, organised crime, networked commercial bodies and religious groups. I'm a big fan of future analysis as a tool for long term planning and it would be great to see an Australian version like this. The Australian National University (ANU) does some good Futures short courses and Australian Defence College's Apollo Future Warfare Analysis course was one of the most interesting professional development opportunities I've had. #futureready #futures #strategy #geopolitics
