MNTO Welcomes Inaugural Montreal-Marrakech Flight by Air Transat The Moroccan National Tourism Office proudly announces the arrival of the inaugural Montreal-Marrakech flight operated by the Canadian airline, Air Transat. This milestone, achieved on June 13, 2024, at Marrakech-Menara Airport, marks the first direct connection from North America to Marrakech, a result of MNTO's dedicated efforts to expand direct air links with North America. For MNTO, this new route is a significant step in its ambitious "Light In Action" strategy to conquer the North American market, with Canada emerging as an increasingly prominent market. Over the past decade, seat capacity from Canada to Morocco has surged by 87%, from 87,000 to 164,000 seats annually, underscoring the immense growth potential of this market. The MNTO has organized a Fam trip for the top management of the Transat group from June 13 to 16, including meetings with the National Tourism Confederation and the Regional Tourism Council of Marrakech-Safi. These engagements aim to strengthen relationships with operators and foster a successful collaboration in the Moroccan tourism sector.

🎓 Today’s Contemporary Issues in Leisure and Tourism class was all about golf tourism—its economic impact, media exposure, and why it’s such a driving force in destinations worldwide. 🏌️♂️ We explored how golf tourism generates significant revenue for host communities, from local businesses to hospitality and transportation sectors, as well as the powerful media exposure that showcases these destinations globally. Understanding the profile of golf tourists and the demand for high-quality experiences was a key focus, revealing the potential for sustainable growth. We also discussed the much-anticipated Open 2025 at Royal Portrush, a perfect case study to see these impacts in action. As Northern Ireland prepares for the event, it’s exciting to see how a single tournament can have a ripple effect, not only on the local economy but on the international stage. Can’t wait to see how the tourism industry continues to adapt to the unique opportunities golf events offer! 🌍 #GolfTourism #EconomicImpact #MediaExposure #TheOpen2025 #RoyalPortrush #SportsTourism #TourismManagement #TheOpen2025 #LocalAndGlobalImpact Dr Peter Bolan Ulster University
