The Athens Riviera Forum takes place from 18 to 20 June 2024 in the Four Seasons Astir Palace Hotel Athens. The contribution of the Athenian Riviera to the touristic development of the wider Athens region was highlighted by the speakers of the ATHENS RIVIERA FORUM 2024 which takes place in Vouliagmeni. Overnight stays in Athens hotels increased in 2023 by 26% compared to 2022, while bookings, in turn, increased by 30%. This performance make the Athens region the most dynamic in all of Greece, with the contribution of the Athenian Riviera to this development being decisive. A consequence of the above is the fact that Athens is not a City Break destination, but a destination where the visitor can spend valuable time and do more exciting things than the islands. Nowadays 80% of visitors know that Athens has a beach front, as well as the iconic Argosaronic islands, Aegina, Poros, Hydra, etc. This was emphasized by Evgenios Vassilikos, secretary general of the Union of Hoteliers of Attica, which was not the case until now. Mr. Vassilikos noted that upgrades to beachfront hotels have put Athens on the global tourism map, but he spoke of a gap in public infrastructure, which he said struggles to handle the existing burden. Finally, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Elena Rapti, focused on the new strategy for Greek tourism, which, as she said, includes a detailed action plan, with interventions that will contribute to the expansion of tourist activity throughout the country and beyond the tourist months peak.

The Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic made its return to Miami with its Dominican Republic Tourism Tradeshow. The event, which took place this past week at the JW Marriott Marquis, showcased the Dominican Republic’s adventure offerings and what the country’s ministry of tourism is doing to further establish its position as a premier tourist destination. In its second year, the Dominican Republic Tourism Tradeshow welcomed over 500 travel agents from North America and Latin America, as well as over 70 co-exhibitors, including Puntacana Resort & Club, Casa De Campo, Cap Cana, Marriott, Sky High Dominicana, Hodelpa Hotels & Resorts, Karisma Hotels & Resorts, and Hyatt Inclusive Collection. Using Miami as the hub for the Americas, the American market represents 85 of every 100 airline arrivals to the Dominican Republic and has been instrumental in post-pandemic growth. Attendees hailed from Canada, the United States, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Costa Rica, Brazil, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and Mexico, said David Collado, Tourism of the Dominican Republic’s minister. Over 280,000 visitors flock to Sikkim this yearTravel Biz Monitor 29-Apr-2024 Sikkim is experiencing an unprecedented surge in tourist arrivals in 2024. According to official data released by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department, Sikkim has welcomed an astonishing 290,401 tourists in the first quarter of the year, up to March 31, 2024. Among these, 256,537 were domestic tourists, while 30,864 arrived from foreign countries. This surge in tourism signals a promising revival for Sikkim’s hospitality sector, which suffered a severe blow from the devastating Glacier Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) in October 2023. The calamity, particularly impacting the northern part of the state, resulted in the loss of 43 lives, with over 70 individuals still reported missing. Consequently, the tourist influx during the second tourist season experienced a significant decline. However, with the current early trend indicating a robust recovery, Sikkim is poised to reclaim its status as a premier tourist destination. Behind this resurgence lies a dedicated workforce of over 250,000 to 300,000 individuals directly or indirectly associated with the tourism industry. This includes hoteliers, tour operators, taxi drivers, guides, and numerous other stakeholders who serve as the backbone of Sikkim’s tourism sector. The economic impact of tourism on the state is significant, with the industry estimated to have generated over 500 crores in revenue before the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. As tourist numbers continue to rise, this figure is expected to witness a substantial increase, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy. Looking at the infrastructure supporting this tourism boom, Sikkim boasts a robust network of 1,725 travel agencies and accommodations offering a total of 38,208 beds to accommodate the influx of visitors. The transportation sector, a vital component of the tourism machinery, comprises 2,206 registered luxury vehicles alongside 6,200 normal taxis and 12,232 smaller cabs. Additionally, there are guides and other minor bed and breakfast establishments collectively contributing to the seamless facilitation of tourist activities across the state. A glance at historical data reveals a steady upward trajectory in tourist arrivals over the past decade. From a modest figure of 576,749 visitors in 2013, the numbers have witnessed a remarkable surge, reaching a peak of 1,625,573 in 2023.
