Did you know women are 6% less likely to receive bystander CPR than men? CPR in public is still rare; it occurs in only about 37% of all cardiac events that happen in public locations. But why are women not receiving the same bystander CPR rates as men? By raising awareness and educating everyone, we can collectively increase the chances of women surviving cardiac arrest in public. #WorldPoint #WomenNeedCPRToo #CPR #BystanderCPR #LearnCPR

We applaud the U.S. Surgeon General's Office for issuing a first-of-its-kind advisory declaring firearm violence in America as a public health crisis. As the advisory concludes, it will take the collective commitment of the nation to turn the tide on this crisis. A public health approach has the potential to curb the alarming trends of firearm-related injury and death that we see in Colorado and across the country, which have devastating impacts to our physical and mental health. As we continue to champion a public health approach to firearm harm prevention in Colorado, Trailhead is excited to use our program office as a hub for building collaboration across the state and working alongside communities to enact solutions that work best for them. Research demonstrates that health care facilities that have deployed K9 units have seen a reduction in crime and violence. Conducting a pilot program is the best and most cost-effective way to experience the benefits of K9 teams. Results of the pilot are quantified by pre- and post-pilot surveys. Here are two data points that led to a pilot becoming a full-time defense against violent attacks on emergency department and behavioral health staff. We worked with Dr. Punch and his team on a video project on harm reduction and opioid use disorder. The work their team is doing on bullet related injury at The BRIC is completely inspiring and in Dr. Punch's words "radical." Watch this short video (not by us, but great!) to quickly learn a bit about what they're doing.
