On this day, Josephine Roche was born in 1886! Josephine Roche, after gaining control of her late father’s Colorado coal mine operation in 1927, invited the United Mine Workers to organize workers and get contracts. Roche also supervised the Public Health Service as part of FDR’s administration and made recommendations for 1935 Social Security. Along those accomplishments, Josephine Roche tried to encourage universal health coverage and was named one of 10 outstanding women in the U.S. in 1936. Please consider donating to the National Women's History Alliance at https://lnkd.in/gukU_i8i to help us continue spreading women's history and learn more about incredible women in our history like Josephine Roche! #womenshistory #history #facts #nationalwomenshistoryalliance

This November, during Native American Heritage Month, we honor the legacy, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Native communities across the country. But honoring our heritage goes beyond acknowledgment—it means taking meaningful action to support the Native-led nonprofits that drive real change in Indigenous communities. Native-led organizations are often the least funded in the nonprofit sector, despite bearing the responsibility of addressing profound social injustices. Our work at NOND is rooted in healing, reclamation, and the fight for true equity and inclusion. Starting Not Our Native Daughters was a leap of faith, built on prayers, fasting, personal funds, and following a vision of healing. Through trauma-informed healing approaches, this nonprofit emerged with a deep commitment to justice for all people—especially Indigenous women who have borne unimaginable pain. Our name, Not Our Native Daughters, honors the resilience of our Native women who face the highest rates of stalking, sexual assault, domestic violence, and murder, forming the core of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW) crisis. Our approach to healing is both reactive and proactive. The colonial impact told us we couldn’t be Native, that we couldn’t speak our languages or practice our ceremonies. Our work defies this erasure, reclaiming our identities, and standing as a testament to our resilience. We carry our ancestors’ voices forward, honoring them by ensuring the next generation knows their strength and culture. Join us in this mission to bring healing, justice, and empowerment to our Native daughters and youth. Text Native Help to 44-321 to donate, or visit our website (on image). Every donation of $50 or more will receive a MMIW or IYV sticker, and donations of $100 or more will receive four stickers. Please visit our website for the sticker request form or email us at notournativedaughters@gmail.com. #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth #MMIW #IndigenousYouthVoices #SupportNativeLed #HealingAndJustice #HonorNativeWomen #Decolonize #IndigenousJustice

Can’t wait to dive into this new report on women giving trends. A quick scan shows an increase in size of gifts from single women compared to single men—not surprising to me given the cultural changes and crises we’ve seen over the past several years. Women are powerful philanthropists and many are leading the way by making real transformative gifts. #WomenGiving #WomenInPhilanthropy #PowerOfWomen

Candid's report "The state of diversity in the U.S. nonprofit sector," analyzed demographic data from over 59,000 public charities. This comprehensive dataset offers a benchmark to track progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. And the data has a lot to say: ❇️ The sector is racially diverse, but leadership is not. 47% of all staff identify as white, compared with 70% of CEOs and 66% of board members. ❇️ White male CEO representation increases with organization size, while BIPOC female CEO representation decreases. ❇️ Smaller organizations tend to have smaller, more diverse boards.
