You must have run a business of a minimum of £10m, ideally £20m+ and have excellent leadership skills with an entrepreneurial approach, thriving in an autonomous environment. Dear recruiters and HR teams, As you recruit for sales managers positions, it's important to advise your clients/companies appropriately. It's unfair to assume that a sales manager without industry-specific experience won't be able to grow revenue or manage a team professionally. Just because someone hasn't worked in a particular industry doesn't mean they lack the necessary sales experience to push products through all channels. Sales managers can replicate winning strategies, tactics, skills, territory understanding, and mutual relationships with customers in new areas. The same distributors, supermarkets, and wholesalers that buy other products are also the ones dealing with detergents and other products that the sales manager may not currently be handling. So, next time you consider a sales manager candidate, don't immediately dismiss them if they lack industry-specific experience. Evaluate their sales experience and skills, and give them a chance to prove themselves.
