They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day: that's why CCEH provides very light breakfast fare like toast with peanut butter and jelly, butter, or cream cheese for folks that come into the Resource Center. 🍞 🧈 🍌 We are very low on peanut butter, jelly, butter, cream cheese, and packaged snacks (soft, easy-to-chew snacks). If you'd like to help our clients start their day with a light breakfast, please let us know. You can see the full list of our needed items on our website: https://buff.ly/4ffVfMV #breakfast #nonprofit #endhomelessness #homelessresources #fullbellyfullheart #snacks

I recently visited a local food bank. It is a food bank that picks up produce at a local grocery store. They used to pickup meats near expiration too. They have freezers and as an under-supplied, overburdened food bank, the need is definitely present. In the last six months the same grocery store stopped discounting meats to 50% and started only discounting them to 30%. I know for a fact this has led to greater discard of expired meat. They no longer allow the food bank to pick up near expiration meats. People who wouldn’t be able to afford those foods in the first place, imaginary profits and losses that never existed are their “reasoning” for throwing food away instead. People in need are not the enemy. People in need aren’t hoarding their money greedily and eagerly waiting at the donation doors. The (potential) merger of Albertsons and Fred Meyer terrifies me. They’re already coordinating their sales to justify “see we’re competing with each other and will keep doing so if you let us merge” What all shoppers have realized? Their prices were heavily inflated since first word of this merger to allow “sales” that don’t lose them a penny. Grocery prices are already unattainable for many and only worsening.

In the case of all social good movements - it's grassroots organizations banding together and communities supporting one another that is going to shift cultural attitudes. At Replate, we think of other nonprofit FROs as potential collaborators, not our competition! A rising tide lifts all ships! Saturday, April 20, from 1:00 - 4:00 pm, is our day for an ALA-Oregon Chapter fun-filled social event full of camaraderie, bowling, and food! Register by April 10! Several of you participated in past events supporting the Sunshine Division, and we want to continue that support! We are hoping that you can bring one or more non-perishable food items for donation to the Sunshine Division as your entrance to this event—the more the better! This is an exciting opportunity to connect with your fellow members and business partner colleagues while we continue our support of a local community partner. Perhaps a bit of competitive bowling or competitive eating—who knows! Knowing that weekends are often family time, our event is open to your +1 and kids. The Grand Central Bowling venue should be a fun way to mix and mingle, enjoy some good food, enjoy bowling at your leisure, or take in a few arcade game activities. Space is limited so register at oregonala.org EARLY! Be sure to register yourself as well as any family members who will join. Please email Lori Hughes at lori.hughes@millernash.com with any questions. Let her know if you will be bringing any children so that we can plan the menu and arcade opportunities. Let’s kick off spring together, support our local community, and spend time with the best in our community -- you! Sunshine Division Food Donation Recommendations: "We rely heavily on food donations to make our mission possible. We are always looking for the following non-perishable items: canned meats, pasta, rice, cereal, soup/broth, peanut butter, canned/dried beans, canned fruit, canned vegetables, cooking oil and shelf-stable milk. To ensure food safety we cannot use: Noncommercial or repackaged items, perishable items, open or used items, alcoholic beverages, damaged or unlabeled cans, homemade items." #networking #ALABuzz #LegalManagment #FoodDonation

Let’s Talk About Hunger Beyond the Holidays Why do we often feel the call to feed the hungry only during Thanksgiving and Christmas? The truth is, hunger doesn’t take a holiday. People in our communities are in need every single day of the year. This holiday season, as you generously donate turkeys or volunteer your time, think about extending that same kindness into the rest of the year. Supporting organizations like Table to Table whose mission is to fight food insecurity year-round and reduce food waste, is a great way to make a lasting impact. Here are a few ideas to help: 🍎 Donate funds or surplus food throughout the year. 🤲 Volunteer regularly, not just during the holidays. 📢 Spread the word about organizations tackling hunger. Let’s come together not just during the festive season, but always, to help those less fortunate. Together, we can make a difference, one meal at a time. www.Tabletotable.org #EndHunger #YearRoundGiving #SupportLocal #TableToTable #MakeADifference #rescuingfood #reducingwaste #relievinghunger

For nearly 50 years, GrowNYC’s Greenmarket program has been the heart of New York City’s connection to farm-fresh food and community. It all started in 1976 with one mission: support struggling regional farms and bring local food to New Yorkers. But Greenmarkets have grown to be so much more—they’re vibrant ‘third places’ where diverse communities come together! ✨ What’s a ‘third place’? It’s an informal gathering spot, neither home nor work, where people connect and build community. That’s exactly what our Greenmarkets do—fostering interaction, creating neutral spaces, and nurturing a sense of belonging through the shared love of fresh, local produce. GrowNYC’s impact today: We work with over 200 regional producers on 45+ Greenmarkets across the 5 boroughs. Greenmarkets are also crucial in addressing food insecurity and promoting equitable access to fresh food by accepting nutrition benefits like EBT, OTC, and more. At every market, we’re building bridges: between farmers and city residents, between communities and fresh food, and between neighbors. Together, we’re supporting local agriculture, combating food insecurity, and protecting farmland for future generations. If you love GrowNYC, please support our work by making a donation. Last week, my fellow Jackson Healthcare team members and I made sandwiches for The Sandwich Project TSP. Regrettably, I didn’t get a picture with my table-mates because I was too busy slathering peanut butter on slices of bread (that was my role in our assembly line). Our gathering started as an all-hands company meeting. Our president and other department team members gave updates on our collective efforts as an organization this year, where we’re headed, and how to best to support our family of companies and one another along the way. Then we took a short break. We came back to the same room several minutes later with a new objective- to roll up our sleeves, make sandwiches for local food insecure people, and in the process, find fellowship with one another. There was something powerful about over a hundred team members working side by side, quite literally hand in hand, to serve a greater purpose for someone we'll likely never meet. My takeaway from our team event: doing the small, precise, hands-on work (in my case peanut buttering bread) can help to center you. It helps to put the big, complicated things into focus. Here was a living example of many hands make light work. And I’m not just talking about the sandwiches. At JH, our mission is to improve the delivery of patient care and the lives of everyone we touch. What are you doing to serve someone else today? #LoveLifts #ProudtobeJH

#APTipTuesday – Have at least two people on your team do a nitty gritty review of the venue contract before forwarding for signature. Ask for clarification on anything you don’t understand, and don’t be afraid to ask about additional concessions. Here are some areas to have top of mind when reading through the contract: 🔸 The food and beverage minimum and how it compares to the previous year 🔸 Whether there are room rental fees 🔸 Payment schedule and options for payment 🔸 Details of the cancellation policy 🔸 Making sure agreed upon concessions such as a reduced corkage fee or complimentary guest rooms are documented Need another set of eyes? Reach out to us. We are happy to help. #AnnPlans #TipTuesday #NonprofitEventPlanning #EventTips #ContractReview #NonprofitSuccess

For most, it's the berry season. For musician me, it's pie season. This summer marks the eighth year of my Pie & Persistence house concert series, which has raised over $85k for more than 30 non-profits from Seattle to Ukraine. And yes, there was a lot of pie. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8Eyfuy In the semi post-Covid world, these typically happen during the summer. I'm a little stunned by how they've evolved from the early days of tip jars and collecting checks/cash for different organizations. This year, hosts have worked with individual organizations to create digital donation pages, which I think is pretty cool. Although this Friday's P + P for the Ballard Food Bank hosted by Jennifer Lamson and Ric Ilgenfritz is sold out, you can still support access to nutritious foods and services for 10,000+ households a month, keeping in mind that food is just the first step in their work of addressing the underlying issues their clients face. We can't address systemic challenges around hunger and food scarcity without building a strong network of community resources and services that are innovative, equitable and just. Access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more and donate here: https://shorturl.at/6OMIP #pieforthepeople
