National Cancer Society Malaysia’s Post

Cancer care poses unique challenges in Asia & the Global South HE Dr Wahid Ali Said Al Kharusi presented a comprehensive overview on the unique challenges faced by Asia in tackling cancer care. Today, in the post pandemic era, countries in Asia are forced to fight a tougher fight against cancer, with challenges such as rebuilding networks, addressing backlogs, driving policy change and adapting to the digitalisation of more and more health services. To overcome these challenges is an uphill battle; one that cannot be undertaken alone. Thus, partnerships between non-governmental organisations, civil society organisations and the government should be the way forward. Dr Wahid highlighted that these parties should look into empowering patients to advocate for themselves, engaging with on-the-ground community members and educating the right people, i.e, decision makers in order to be better equipped to face the challenges of cancer care in Asia.
