'BETTER, FASTER, SMARTER: HARNESSING INNOVATION TO CREATE THE GREEN ENERGY SYSTEMS OF TOMORROW' This week Ørsted released a new interactive report presenting an overview of some of the innovation initiatives they are pursuing. Innovation is critical to delivering greater value across our core technologies, and reaching our vision of a world that runs entirely on green energy. Explore the report across three parts: Offshore excellence, Systems integration, Partnering for impact. We are proud that our #LiquidAirEnergyStorage (LAES) has been included in the systems integration module of the report. We are looking forward to continuing our strong relationship with Ørsted, especially following the recent news of our investment which will enable the construction of our Carrington LAES facility. “In 2023, alongside energy storage innovator Highview Power, we initiated an in-depth analysis into the role of LAES co-located with offshore wind. Preliminary results show that LAES has the potential to support energy balancing of offshore wind as well as offering much needed services to support stability of and access to the grid where the wind farm is connected.” You can explore the full report here: https://lnkd.in/dCaE6ta3 Read more on our storage case here: https://lnkd.in/exwhpkhe #Orsted #EnergyStorage #LDES #OffshoreWind #CleanEnergy #GreenPower

Last week not only saw another packed edition of reNEWS Premium but we also published our inaugural Floating Offshore Wind Report. Read on to see what you can expect from our brand new 25 page report... The floating offshore wind sector is at a pivotal moment in its development, with several key demonstration and small commercial-scale projects lining up to deploy in frontrunner markets over the next few years to showcase the technology and the role it can play in the long-term climate and renewables goals. Meanwhile the sector is working to overcome a range of challenges around the technical development of floating foundations and operations and maintenance practices to reduce LCOE and inform decisions around much-needed supply chain investments. In parallel, the policy environment is evolving in emerging markets to facilitate investment. The upcoming projects will play a vital role in overcoming these challenges and clear a pathway for the world’s first large-scale commercial projects – read the report to find out more! Following the latest U.S. offshore wind market update webinar, one attendee's comment captured the impact of the discussion perfectly: “I had no idea that so many wind turbines were planned -- it’s incredible.” With 12 projects now consented across the U.S., more than 1,124 turbines are set to be installed, bringing over 13GW of combined capacity. Construction has already begun on these initial turbines by industry leaders Dominion, Ørsted and Avangrid/CIP, with even larger projects slated to start next year and many more on the horizon. This growth translates to substantial economic benefits, from job creation to supply chain investment, underscoring the value of green energy infrastructure. And that’s just the beginning! Upcoming events like the Gulf of Maine lease auction could double the turbines into the U.S. development pipeline in just one day with construction potentially starting in the mid-2030s. Offshore wind in the U.S. is not only taking shape now but set to persist for many decades to come. If you missed our webinar, don't worry! NEW CROSS-ATLANTIC ALLIANCE TO BOOST MARINE ENERGY Marine Energy Wales (MEW) and the National Hydropower Association (NHA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to boost collaboration in the marine energy sector. The partnership aims to accelerate technology deployment and contribute to net zero goals in Wales and North America, respectively. MEW, representing Wales' tidal stream, tidal range, floating offshore wind, and wave energy industries, will work with NHA, which advocates for North America's hydropower sector. The agreement focuses on supporting policy development, reducing deployment barriers, and promoting the industry's role in clean energy transitions. This collaboration is expected to facilitate technological exchange and resource sharing between the two organizations. It follows a similar partnership between NHA and Marine Renewables Canada earlier this year. The alliance seeks to leverage diverse industry insights and resources to overcome obstacles to market growth and elevate marine energy as a commercial sector supporting sustainable economic development on both sides of the Atlantic. ⚡ Follow MPS (Modern Power Systems) for all the latest news daily from the global power generation industry ⚡ #MPS #power #hydropower #marineenergy #energytransition #netzero

This week's top #energynews in #TheInformer: 🍃Reform of the grid connections process to quickly deliver more renewable energy projects is more critical than ever, according to Ofgem. The regulator said the new UK Government’s refocusing of efforts towards a new 2030 clean power mission had provided fresh impetus for work to speed up connections. 🌍Rising wholesale prices are expected to see the next domestic price cap increase by 9%, according to analysts. Cornwall Insight predicts the October price cap due to be announced later this week will be £1,714 per annum. 💨Plans to connect up to 4.5GW of floating offshore wind have been unveiled by the system operator. The ESO has put forward its recommended design to connect up to 3GW from wind farms in the Celtic Sea into two locations in South Wales and up to 1.5GW into the South West of England. 💬 "The asks from developers are reasonably simple: Consistency in the planning process, a clear and reliable income stream and the grid being available to accommodate new connections in a reasonable timeframe. "Simple does not equate to easy, though. This is where the cooperation comes in with the Governments at UK and individual country level. As developers, we recognise that risk is a natural part of our business, but working within sensible timescales for grid and planning, aligned with a robust route to market process, really helps to make these acceptable to investors, too. "There is a need for pace and we need to pull our resources together with the Government Renewable Energy Taskforce and other initiatives to move forwards." ✍️ Read the full blog post by our Director of Onshore Projects, Derek Hastings 🔗 Up on our website now: https://lnkd.in/eGTP7GYt #onshorewind #renewableenergy #renewables
